The monks came to talk to us

Three monks came along to Patana today to talk about their life as a monk and Buddhism.
Some of the questions that children asked were
Why do you shave your head?
Why do you wear orange clothes?
Why don't you wear shoes?
Can you remember some of the answers to these questions?
Outdoor classroom
Today children in 1C went over the road to explore the outdoor classroom. Once they arrived they took part in four activities.
- Pond dipping – adult to supervise nets, look at creatures ‘caught’ etc, return at end
- Soil sample – children dig up soil and look closely at contents, returning soil at end
- Swiping/tree shaking – using sheets etc, children collect things from grass and trees and investigate what they have dislodged, returning samples at end
- Scavenger hunt – children collect anything ‘loose’ on ground for investigation back in class later in the week e.g. leaves, stones, rubbish, sticks etc
There was a buzz of excitement as the children found a variety of different bugs such as beetles, ants, butterflies, tiny frogs, big toads, earthworms, crabs and spiders to name but a few.

Teo was fascinated by the monks and loved the trip to the 'Outside Classroom'-what a great first week back.
I was fainting because it was too hot. I really enjoyed the secken trip in year1. It was really fun and cool.
