Literacy Homework Wednesday 31st March

Published Wednesday, March 31, 2010.

Due Friday 2nd April

A short homework tonight. You deserve it. You have all worked hard this term, and some of the writing in particular has been outstanding.

Write a short opening blurb for a our piano narrations. This will form the 'opening credits' of our films that will appear on screen before the narration starts (written, not spoken). Three or four sentences to sum up 'the flavour' of the film would be fine. Remember, you are not telling the story, that would give it away. Many of the words that we used in the zone of relevance activities will be useful. It would be useful if you typed it and emailed me. You could start with this...

What follows is a story of .....

and end with ...... 'The Pianist' By 5B

Optional Extension

Write a short piece called 'The Making of the Pianist'. This should describe the process from when we first watched the film to the end point after we have recorded the narrations. What did we do in between? How did you come up with such atmospheric narrations?

Literacy Homework Wednesday 26th March

Published Wednesday, March 24, 2010.

Due Friday 26th March

You have been doing some fantastic work on using descriptive to write a narrative for The Piano.

Read the simple sentences below and turn them into descriptive paragraphs that describe that part of the film. Two things that will be really useful will be a thesaurus to find interesting words and to use commas, (or even semi colons), to link different parts of the sentences together. Remember to vary your sentence lengths.

The old man sits in a big room.

He plays a nice tune.

His fingers press the keys and we notice a ring.

An old lady kisses him on the cheek.

He nods to his friend.

He opens the box and takes out the hobby horse.

 His grandson smiles at him.

Literacy Homework 10th March

Published Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

I would like you to spend 40 minutes completing some reading dairies entries. I think this should be enough time for about two entries. As there is no school on Friday I will check them in our library time on Monday.
