Sentence Level Learning at Home 30/9/10 Due: 4/10/
We have been looking at the different uses of apostrophes this week. To practise these, please complete the following two sheets in your spelling homework books. Click on both the links to see the pages. You should have time to complete both sheets.

Optional Extension
Make a poster teaching people about the differing uses of apostrophes. These sheets concentrate on apostrophes for possession - are there any other uses of apostrophes? Make your poster beautiful and eye-catching.
By scanning these two pages onto the blog, we have just saved 350 A4 sheets of paper. Please don't print the sheets out at home - just complete your work in your Homework books! Congratulations, Year 5, on being so GREEN!

Learning at Home: The Highwayman. 29.9.10
Due Friday 1st October
Follow this link to read ‘The Highwayman’.
http://www.teachersfirst.com/share/highwayman/index.html

The website will tell you about different ‘language tricks’ Alfred Noyes uses in "The Highwayman" to make reading the poem interesting, and to create a picture of the scenes and events in your head. This is called imagery.
Read the poem and find all the examples you can of: alliteration, metaphor, personification, simile and interesting vocabulary words. Underline one of each type of language that you think is most effective.
If you have time make up your own examples of these language features based on the story of ‘The Highwayman’.
Do this in your red Literacy books.
Optional Extension
Watch these two Highwayman videos. Write a short piece saying which you think is most effective at telling the story and why.

Humanties Homework Monday 27th September
Aztec Fashion!
Time to find out about those "Interesting Aztecs"
700 years ago the Aztecs wore clothes that were very different from the ones that we wear now. Each different job would have had different clothes to wear...from priests to farmers.
I want you to research Aztec clothes and the costumes that they might have worn.
When you have done this, write a description of the outfit down...use those WOW words to make it really stand out. Also tell me who would have worn these clothes.
Then draw a picture of the clothes on an A4 sized piece of paper. Label the different parts of clothing, for example, headress or sandals.
Here is a link to some body shapes to help you if you need it.

Optional Extension
Maybe you could make fabric clothes to glue onto these figures!
Maybe clothes made of card that you can switch over!
BE AS CREATIVE AS YOU CAN!
