4J's Jolly Jungle: Find out what's going on in 4J.

Literacy Homework - A Wanted Poster.

Published Thursday, May 19, 2011.
Last updated: Thursday, May 19, 2011

Thursday 19th May, due in Monday 23 May.

In Literacy, we have been learning how to make really interesting character descriptions. We’ve been learning how to ‘show’ not ‘tell’. Instead of saying:

Bill is mean.

You could say:

When charging into rooms, Bill can often be found kicking his dog.

Scowling and cursing, Bill can usually be spotted trudging down filthy, dark alleys at night, spotlit by the sinister beam of the moon.  His broad stature, menacing eyes and unshaven face are usually concealed by the shadow caused from his tattered and misshapen hat.

We want your poster to be more exciting than this:

Bill has brown hair . Bill is tall. Bill is mean.

In Oliver, there are four main nasty characters:

Bill Sykes

Mr Bumble

They are all wanted by the police for their dodgy behaviour. Your job is to create a 'Wanted Poster' for one of the characters. It must include the following:

A photograph or picture.

Character Description (including mannerisms as well as appearance).

Explanation of why they are wanted.

Where you might find them.

You can create your work on the computer or by hand.  If you want to make your poster look old, then you can stain it using tea!

Here is an example - but I want yours to be even more creative than this:

Here is a template you can use:

Mister Bumble is a crimanal? I thought he works for the mayor?

You are very right Gloy. He wasn't very nice to children though, so you can use your imagination if you want to choose him for your character description.
