Crazy Goes Home!
Over the next two terms, a little visitor will be coming home with one of the children each weekend. Either Crazy or Chrissy will accompany the children home on a Friday afternoon - along with a little book to record their adventures in. Crazy has already been chosen twice this term and the writing, pictures and photos of his time with the children are here for you to enjoy! I look forward to seeing and reading about their exploits - there are bound to be fun times to be had! :)

Hi, Mr. M. I miss you very much!
How are you?
I am playing with my cousin and I was
playing the school blog games!
How are Crazy and Chrissy?
I miss them very much!
Science - Materials Activity
The children have been investigating different materials this week and enjoyed looking at this website all about different materials and their properties that they did with Mr. Paul. I hope they enjoy having a go at it at home.
Once you enter the website, click on either Ages 5-6 or Ages 6-7. This will take you to some choices of activities to have a go at. Down the left hand side there are further age choices. We looked at the characteristics of materials, which is in the 7-8 age band.
Have fun!!

Measuring using rulers
The children were investigating objects around the classroom using rulers today, learning about the concept of measuring using standard units (centimetres).
First of all they worked in pairs (Talk Partners) to find one object to bring back to the carpet. Once every pair had chosen their item, they worked together to compare them and put them in size order from the biggest to the smallest.

Then it was time to get the rulers out!!
In their Talk Partners, the children had to use their rulers to find objects that were 10cm long. These could be objects that they found to be the correct length as well as those that they made out of Lego, play dough etc. There was a lot of discussion to be had and comparisons to be made while using the rulers, as their collections grew. They were aided by the fact that the rulers they were measuring with had 10cm marks on them that provided a good gauge for their accuracy. Once the time was up we took photos of the children with their "treasure"!

The afternoon was great fun and went by so quickly. The children's accuracy was really good and you could hear and see them discarding objects because they were either slightly too long, or too short.
Well done, 1S!

Sorting Skills
The children have been doing a lot of sorting this week. Today, we sorted our feet! One shoe and one sock was taken off, then the foot was drawn around, cut out and measured using Multilink cubes. Once this had been done, the children had to find others with the same length feet and get in a group. Then all of the cut out paper feet were placed in a row so that we could see who had the shortest feet and who had the longest. We also found out how many children had the same size feet and which length was the most popular.
One child's foot was 10 multilink cubes long, two children's feet were 7 multilink cubes long, eight children's feet were 8 multilink cubes long and eight children's feet were 9 multilink cubes long.
We had a lot of fun gathering the information, sorting it out and then finding out the results.

I have got the longest feet in the class! Measuring your body was fun.

We have started our new topic and it is called "The Toy Box".
It has been a lot of fun to see your favourite toys and to see how excited you have been to share them with everyone in the class. I am looking forward to working with you on our topic and seeing your learning progress.
The following photographs are those taken when we shared our toys together for the first time - there was a lot of enthusiasm in the classroom!

I'm rather glad you've got our tank!
