First Week of Term 3
We have started off our new Learning Theme this week - all about "Our Wonderful World" - and we have focussed on Thailand and Bangkok. We have had a visit by a group of Monks who spoke to us and answered our questions. They told us that the reason they wear orange robes is because it is their uniform - jusy like ours! Also, a few thousand years ago when the followers of Buddha lived in the forests, orange was chosen because it scared other animals away, thinking that they were tigers ... the children though that this was cool!

Green Earth Day on Friday was fun. The children came to school dressed in so many different shades of green the playground looked like a swaying and mobile rainforest! They enjoyed an Assembly led by the children of 2O where they learnt all about the benefits of reusing and recycling items of rubbish. The story all about "Litterbug Doug" was very memorable way because Mr. Sean read it in such a funny way!
Next week, the children will be making merit with some Monks in the Year 1 & 2 Playground as well as visiting our Outdoor Classroom - it is going to be another fascinating week of learning. Look out for details and reminders about these events in the children's Red Books next week.

The Last Week of Term 2!
The children had a wonderful last week of term, with many exciting events, special days and activities to enjoy. First of all they had Fairy Tale Day and Science Day all rolled into one. The children looked great in their outfits and costumes; it was fabulous to see lots of them in creations they had come up with themselves. They were put into working groups for the science activities where they had to work together to build a bridge for the Troll, make a pair of slippers for the Giant, test out the materials for the three Little Pigs houses and lastly make the beanstalk for Jack that was as high as they could make it! We had a fashion show where all of the children could show off their outfits which was followed by a special lunch; a multiplex cinema experience completed the day's fun.

Another double day of excitement followed with our Splash Day with 1E and the visit of Australian author Leigh Hobbs; writier of the Old Tom stories, the Horrible Harriet books and the character of Mr. Chicken. The children were very well prepared for our Splash Day session on the side field beside the Canteen; the assortment of water guns, pistols and squirters was very impressive! We can safely say that no-one who came with us stayed in the least but dry and everyone had a fabulous time! Once we were dry we had our snack and got ready for our time with Leigh Hobbs. He was excellent with the children and shared his secrets of how to draw the characters in his books - all of the children's artwork was both individual and definitely looked like who they were supposed to! :-)

Finally, we had the Songkran Assembly, with the water blessing and Thai singing and dancing to enjoy. This was a lovely way to end the week and set the children up very well for their holiday - HAPPY SONGKRAN! :-)
