For many adults mathematics is all about addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Our Foundation Stage children know that maths is far more than this and can actually be amazing fun. Much of the child initiated play within the Foundation Stage links with the development of mathematical understanding. Between 8 am and 10 am on Wednesday April 4th the Foundation Stage held a Maths Open Morning to which all parents were invited to attend.
This was a chance to explore maths from the perspective of a young child. As with all young children’s learning, mathematical development takes place at different rates in every child. Therefore, it is essential that most tasks are open ended and can support all stages of development. The open morning took place across the whole of the Foundation Stage and was a chance for all parents to take part in a wide range of mathematical learning.
