Sports Day

Y2 have had a fantastic Sports Day today, participating in lots of different activities which gave them the opportunity to demonstrate their impressive PE skills.
For 2W the first activity was the 30m Sprint.

Next up was the Number Challenge. The children were grouped into four teams; each team was situated at one of the corners of a square. One person from each team was to run to the centre of the square, collect a ball and take it back to the team. Each person took it in turns to go and collect a ball. The only problem was...all of the balls were numbered and had to be taken in numerical order. Which team would collect all of their balls first?

The next activity was the Fun Relay. 2W certainly had a lot of fun racing on space hoppers, doing the sack race and the egg and spoon (or tennis racket and ball).

Our next challenge was the Three Springs Jump and Hurdle Spectacular. Followed by the Basketball Shoot the Hoop...

Then it was time for the Football Skills and Hockey Dribble Challenge.

After that it was time for the Obstacle Course. The obstacles included walking along a wobbly bridge (a bench), crawling through a tunnel, climbing over a mountain (a box), jumping over stepping stones (hoops), leap frogging over an obstacle and then performing a gymnastic feat! Phew!

Finally it was time for our last event - the Javelin Throw.

We really enjoyed our Sports Day. Everyone had great fun ...

... including some of our class mums!

Which activity did you enjoy the most?

Visit to Chanukroh Day Care Centre
On Wednesday 9th February we visited the Chanukroh Day Care Centre, the local organisation supported by Y2 annual fundraising. After being greeted by the staff and children we presented them with a digital camera and play equipment. Then we played with the children. Some of us showed the younger children how to work with plasticine and cutters and others played Bingo or played outside.

Symmetry
2W have been learning about symmetry and have done lots of work investigating reflections of pictures, shapes and patterns. We ended our unit of work by creating our own symmetrical shapes using ourselves.
Where would you put the line of symmetry or mirror line?
