 The Great Barrier Reef

In the Pacific

Just off Australia

In shallow water

There lies a reef.

With Miles of coral,

Of different kinds,

Provides a home for

The ocean life.

Each tiny polyp

Are joined together

In shallow water

To make the reef.

Inside their bodies,

Small algae live,

They’re getting food for

Protection they give.

Extending tentacles

That are filled with poison

The polyps prey on

Their evening meal.

For passing plankton,

It is not kind,

But polyps swallow

Their tasty find.

Amongst the coral

In nooks and crannies

So many things hide

Searching for food.

Lobsters, crabs and starfish,

And snails and fish,

Are looking out for

 Their very next dish.
