Discovering the World Homework Grid

For one of your day’s homework, you will use the grid to decide what you will do.

This homework will cover 5 weeks (5 x 25 minutes of focused activity = 2hrs 5 minutes)

Completed work should be at Publishing Standard – best handwriting, use of colour, heading in bubble writing, correct spelling etc.

ALL WRITING SHOULD BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS NOT COPIED AND PASTED FROM THE INTERNET

If it is obvious that you have copied and pasted from the internet, your teacher will probably ask you to do it again.  This means research activities will take some time and you will need to carefully read and understand what you have read.

How many activities you complete, is up to you – some activities will take some time to complete to a good standard.  But you should be able to justify what you have done in the time you have available.

Each Friday, you need to bring in what you are working on – it does not need to be finished but it makes sure you are doing some each week and not leaving it until the last moment!

How you present your learning is up to you.  If you need any resources, please see your teacher.

Create an explorer’s backpack for a particular region.

What will they need?

What will the weather be like?

Think about weight

How long is it for?

Create a time line of when different countries were discovered.

Pretend you are a famous explorer discovering a land.  Write a ‘Capturing the Moment’ poem about what you see, hear, feel, smell.

Remember use ‘show not tell’

Paint a clear picture in the reader’s mind!

Write a diary entry for a famous explorer on their journey.

Produce a landscape (paint, pastel, water colour) of a place that has never been discovered!

(Use you your imagination!)

On a Map of the World show the route of a famous explorer who went around the world.  Include some pictures of what might have happened on the way.

Create a photographic presentation showing when you have been an explorer and where you have been.

Why did you?

What did you do?

Design a recruiting poster encouraging  people to come with you on  your expedition.

Why would they want to come?

What sort of people do they need to be?

Where are you going?

What transport are you using?

Match an explorer to each of the Learner Profile attributes with reasons why.

I think exploration is when you go to a new place or you go to a place that has already been discovered to look carefully to find new things and have fun not knowing what you will find there. But explorers go to places in space not just on earth.

when someone goes around the world to come famous, travel and help poor people.

marco polo, mario, ferdinand magellan, niel armstrong, david livingston, christiphore columbos and sir frances drake! bye see you all later!
