What have we been doing for the last three weeks?
For the last three weeks, Y6A have been busy learning about one special celebration in a Spanish-Speaking country: The Day of the Dead. Y6 were very lucky to be visited by Señorita Margarita, a famous singer from Mexico. She told them about this special celebration, showed them some videos and presented an activity where each team had to design a poster. They had to work collaboratively to learn the differences and find out the similarities between this celebration and another one easily confused: Halloween. They then reflected on their learning and prepared a short speech to share using the Aurasma App, which they learnt how to use during Risk-it Week in their Spanish class! Thus, by creating their own augmented reality, they made their posters interactive.
If you have the Aurasma App on your smartphone, seach and follow Y6. This is our username:
Visit our classroom and find pictures with this A icon above to see Y6A come alive and access the Auras they have made with their reflections.
Here is a short video clip with some snapshots of their work.
If you would like to learn about these two celebrations, play these games and find out.
On the other hand, Y6B have been busy doing a Primary and Secondary students’ Spanish exchange! On November 13th, Y6B were invited up to the shared area in the new MFL building in Secondary to meet and interview students in Y9. They introduced themselves and asked questions that they have been learning in Spanish, recording answers in chatter boxes. Some of the questions asked in the interview were about name, age, country, capital of their country, city where they live, birthday, languages they speak, favourite tennis player, favourite number, favourite colour, favourite subject at school and animals they like. It was a great opportunity to share their learning, making a smooth transition for next year. Y6B were so thrilled with this project that they are already asking when they could come back to Secondary to have a similar experience!
