Hello Everyone,
With the school closed due to the floods, it’s a good time to spend some extra time reading. Hopefully, you’ve got some good books at home to keep you going. If not, we can help!
We have E-Books available on the Library website. From the front page of the online Library Catalogue, students can access free e-books. For younger pupils, we have a subscription to Tumble Books which has hundreds of super story books waiting to be read. For older students, there are more than 50 books on the Patana catalogue that can be ‘borrowed’ and read online. Titles include a mix of classic and current fiction books and non-fiction fact books. Click into the information page of a book you want to read and press the Read Online button at the top right hand corner. There is also a list of websites that offer free e-books.
Luckily the book stores in Bangkok are still open and fully stocked. But perhaps you’re unsure about what books to buy. The Library website is full of suggestions for good books to read for both Primary and Secondary students. Just look for the Recommended Reading pages on the website.
Finally, our website also has links to online Newspapers and Magazines so you can keep up to date with the news.

Linda Newberry confirmed as Visiting Author

Awesome Audio Books
We have an awesome collection of audio books in the Primary Library waiting to be taken on half term holiday. Audio books are CDs that read you a story while you listen. You can listen to them in the car or on your i-pod.
They are perfect for holidays!
If you get carsick while reading on the go, get an audio book.
If your brothers and sisters annoy you on long journeys, get an audio book.
If you’re feeling too tired from a long half term at school to read your favourite book, get an audio book.
If you love sharing stories with your family and friends, get an audio book. Everyone can listen at once!
If you really want to read a book but are afraid it’s a bit too difficult to read on your own, get an audio book.
If you love being read to but no one is around, get an audio book.
Choose from titles in the Geronimo Stilton, Percy Jackson, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Mr. Gum series, and popular books by Ronald Dahl, Jacqueline Wilson, Michael Morpurgo, Meg Cabot, Philip Pullman, Enid Blyton and many more!

Playing with Poetry
Exciting times in the library! Not only are we running a Sticker Design contest (see below) but we are also featuring a poetry competition!
Thursday October 6th is National Poetry Day and we are celebrating all month long. Since Poetry is wordplay, the theme of this year’s campaign is Games. Why not write your own poem and enter our contest. We’re on the lookout for some poems about games- sport games, board games, word games, any old games! Post your poems in the boxes in the libraries or hand your entry in to the librarians by October 31st.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
Write a Haiku poem about the experience of watching your favourite sports team
Create an acrostic poem about your favourite game
Describe how a competitor feels after winning a medal for their sport
Personify an object from a board game: how does the Monopoly car feel racing around the board, or the counters as they are forced through the Connect-4 board?
Capture the emotion of competing in a big race
The winners will have their poems displayed in the library, published on the blog and will awarded Book Vouchers!
Also as part of our celebration of poetry and games, we have board games available in both the libraries for use at lunch time. Yesterday, some of the Primary children got a first go at playing together with their friends and the librarians.
