Y6 Book Talks

Published Wednesday, February 05, 2014.
Last updated: Wednesday, February 05, 2014

Hello Year 6,

I have very much enjoyed your Book Talks so far this year. If yours is still to come here are some helpful hints and videos.

Book Talks have four parts:

The Hook: A creative introduction which hooks the listeners in.

Make this interersting! Think props, drama, questions, cool factes etc.

The Book: A comprehensive summary of the book which does not give away the ending.

This should be in your own words. Don't just read the blurb!

The Look: A shared passage from the book

Make sure to 'set this up': what is happenign at this point in ther book and why have you choosen this part. This shouldn't be too long; just a good 'taste'.

The Took: Opinions and Recommendations

Why did you choose this book for your talk? What is your opinion of it? Who would you recommend it to and why?

Below are videos of two very good Book Talks from Term 1. Notice how the students have used the ruberic to help them plan out their talks.

Merry Christmas from the Library Team

Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas.

What super job on our 'Give a Gift of a Book for Christmas' collection - we have collected over 1500 books. We are so thrilled by your kindness and generosity and thank you enormously.

Students - keep reading and sending in the reviews for the Secondary House Reading Competitition. Samui are catching Phuket up fast so your review could make all the difference to who the final house champions are!

Have a wonderful holiday.

Well done to our three teams who took part in the 5th annual Readers’ Theatre competition last Monday. The girls did a fantastic job bringing their stories to life and were rewarded for their efforts.

The Gators (Holly Dejuspa, 11S,  Bea De La Fuente, 11A, Irene Ittisarnronnachai, 11A,  Jordyn Tetro, 11O and Mai Mai Chansvangwonk, 11V) won the top prize in their division.

The Roaring Readers (Hannah Gray, 5K, Ananya Suri, 5G,  Janelle Lourdes De La Cruz, 5H, Carolyn Suradejvibul, 5B, and Pammy Leenabanchong, 5K) took home the 2nd place prize in the 9-12 category.

The Readergators (Nada Khaleefah, 6K,  Madeleine Dewse, 6S,  Shriya Srivastava, 6H,  Gia Narayan, 5K, and Annabelle Hong, 5T) placed 3rd in their division.

The teams represented BPS very well, won books for our Libraries and all received Asia Books vouchers to spend on themselves.
