From Head to Toe by Eric Carle
We have been sharing a book ‘From Head to Toe’ by Eric Carle. In the story, animals can move in different ways and they each ask a question. For example, “I am a monkey and I wave my arms. Can you do it?” The child has a go and replies, ‘I can do it!” We have been having great fun seeing if we can do it too! It is also encouraging the children to ‘have a go’ and be risk takers!
You can share a version of the story at home that has been put to song. Have fun joining in!
Can you do it?

Week beginning 13.11.11
The children have been introduced to the characters in the Christmas story through role play. To bring the songs alive, the children have used props in our outdoor learning environment to develop an understanding of Joseph’s and Mary’s work, as described in our chant. The children have had the opportunity to ‘saw’ pieces of wood with the plastic saw, and to use hammers
We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Simon, Elsie’s Dad, who visited us from the Secondary Design and Technology Department last week. He was able to show the children in K1 how Joseph would have cut a piece of wood with a saw and would have hammered nails. The children watched with great interest and were very keen to ‘have a go’ under careful supervision! We talked about the importance of safety when using tools.
We hope you enjoy looking at the pictures :)

It was great to be back in school last week to continue the wonderful learning that goes on in K1. The children were delighted to be in school and were actively involved in learning through play. They benefited from being with friends, talking with one another and sharing their thoughts, feelings and ideas. There was a wonderful ‘buzz’ in K1.
In K1, we are very busy learning a chant and new songs for our Christmas performance on Thursday 8th December at 8.00am in the Primary hall. You may have been hearing some of them at home already! Our young children love to learn songs and by giving them visual cues, actions and lots of repetition they are amazing us all with how quickly they are picking them up. They can be heard singing in the garden as they play which is lovely!
Here are the words to ‘Joseph’s Work’:
Hammer, hammer, hammer,
Saw, saw, saw,
Piles of sawdust on the floor.
Hammer, hammer, hammer,
Saw,saw,saw,
Joseph’s made a brand new door.
On Wednesday 30th November at 8.00am, there will be a meeting on ‘Learning Journeys’ for all of the Foundation Stage parents in Nursery, K1 and K2. We look forward to seeing you there.
