week beginning 7th Feb
In K1 we have been exploring the sense of taste. Some of the children became ‘risk takers’ as they tasted fruits that they had not tried before. Some were pleasantly surprised, discovering that they enjoyed the experience and asked for more! As part of our theme of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears', all of the children tasted three different types of porridge; salty, warm and chocolate flavoured. You can imagine the responses! Most agreed that the porridge was too salty, the warm porridge was too hot and the chocolate flavoured porridge was just right! It was an opportunity for the children to show their reasoning skills. They were encouraged to talk about their likes and dislikes and to explain why. It also highlighted that they were beginning to use the story language they had heard during our story telling sessions. It has been wonderful to hear that some of you have been listening to your children’s versions of the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' at home too! Thank you for sharing this with us.
At home during meal times, maybe your children can talk to you about the taste of the food they are eating. Here are some of the words we have been using in K1 when tasting fruit and porridge and eating at lunchtime.
hot, cold, warm, sweet, sour, juicy, spicy, bitter, creamy
We also enjoyed bringing our Teddy Bears to school and sharing a Teddy bears' picnic together. It was a wonderful morning with lots of singing and bear stories being shared.
We hope you enjoy looking at our pictures!
