K1: We Play! We Think! We Learn!

Week beginning 13.11.11

The children have been introduced to the characters in the Christmas story through role play. To bring the songs alive, the children have used props in our outdoor learning environment to develop an understanding of Joseph’s and Mary’s work, as described in our chant. The children have had the opportunity to ‘saw’ pieces of wood with the plastic saw, and to use hammers

We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Simon, Elsie’s Dad, who visited us from the Secondary Design and Technology Department last week. He was able to show the children in K1 how Joseph would have cut a piece of wood with a saw and would have hammered nails. The children watched with great interest and were very keen to ‘have a go’ under careful supervision! We talked about the importance of safety when using tools.

We hope you enjoy looking at the pictures :)

I can balance the beanbag on my head!

Who can you see dancing to the music?

Hammer, Hammer Hammer, saw, saw, saw.

I used the linking elephants to make a hat.

I am playing with the garage!

I am sorting the dinosaurs into the right colours.
