Aquathlon 2010
Aquathlon 2010
“When the going gets tough, the tough get going!” Angus Fotheringham 5W

It only seems like yesterday we were donning our swimming costumes and running trainers for the 2009 Aquathlon, how time flies at Patana School! 2010 has certainly not disappointed us as the aquathlon was as ‘keenly’ participated as ever with Patana students rising to the occasion and doing an amazing job in what can be a gruelling challenge. The Aquathlon is one of my favourite events of the year as everyone gets an opportunity to set themselves a personal challenge and get involved. A special well done to our year 3 students who participated in the event for the first time.
The aquathlon consists of two sections, a distance swim followed by a run. For this students work in pairs, whilst one is competing their partner helps them by recording distances, cheering them on and helping them change from their swimming kit to their running kit. It’s always great to see how much help and encouragement the students give each other.
For the majority of the students the emphasis of the event is on enjoyment and participation, however things are a little bit more serious in years 5 and 6 as students are given the option to enter the competitive aquathlon which takes place in the 50m pool. Students are given an overall time for the event which means that there is always a very different atmosphere at the poolside as they discuss tactics and the best ways to improve their times.
Everyone did a fantastic job on the day however a special mention goes out to the following students;

The Aquathlon isn’t just an event for the students, it’s also an opportunity for staff and parents to get involved and see if they can keep up. As always we had plenty of volunteers so well done to all those that gave it a go! Don’t worry if you missed out this year, before you know it the 2011 Aquathlon will be here so start training now.
Remember to keep an eye on the notice board as the competitive times will be posted soon!
Well done everyone,
Chris Meller

Shrewsbury Basketball Tournament
Shrewsbury Basketball Friendly

Last Friday our year 5 and 6 students played in a friendly basketball tournament at Shrewsbury International School. As usual the Patana students responded with great enthusiasm and we were able to enter 7 teams, 4 boys and 3 girls. The purpose of the event was to give out teams some valuable experience and preparation for the BISAC tournament that is fast approaching. The afternoon was a great success and it was fantastic to see so much talent and enthusiasm on display.
Well done to everyone who took part and we look forward to seeing you all at next Friday’s invitational tournament!!

The basketball season got off to a great start last week with the now annual Basketball Bonanza. All students who are involved in the basketball ECA, Years 5 and 6 were invited to get together for a marathon of basketball. It was great to see so much enthusiasm and talent on display. Well done to everyone who took part, we’re certainly looking forward to a fantastic season.

2010 Football Frenzy
!YEAR 4 FOOTBALL FRENZY!
Several weeks ago Mr. Tatam approched all of Year 6 and offered us a chance to help with the Year 4 football tournament. A group of our friends and I were chosen for either the position of ‘Manager’ or ‘Assistant Manager’ or ‘Referee’. It was a great opportunity for us and we felt proud to be given the extra important responsibility.
On this sunny hot day, the action on the field was extremely exciting and no one knew what was going to happen next because the ball was flying from one side of the pitch to the other! The competition was tough but our teams thought of ways to get the ball in the net!
We worked hard to help and encourage the Year 4’s. Many goals were scored by each and every team. What is sure is that they all played their very best.
We hope that Wednesday and Thursday will bring more surprises on the field and that we can experience some amazing goals and outstanding saves.
