FS & KS1 Water Safety Theme Week

Teaching children basic water survival skills is all part of learning the importance of being able to swim. This week our Patana Foundation and KS1 children took turns demonstrating the Water Safety slogan REACH OR THROW, DON'T GO. During their swimming lessons at Patana, children are encouraged to play learning games which include a wide variety of simple but fundamental skills like floating on their backs, blowing bubbles, swimming through hoops and picking up sinkers underwater. All of these skills lead to building our children's confidence in the water.

Here are some tips from Laurie Lawrence who has pioneered the water safety programme 'KIDS ALIVE, DO THE FIVE'

Kids Alive - Do The Five!

1. Fence the pool
2. Shut the gate
3. Teach your kids to swim - it's great
4. Supervise - watch your mate and
5. Learn how to resuscitate
