Patana Primary Footballers Support St Andrews, Rayong
ONE DAY, ONE GOAL Charity Event
On Saturday 24th September an intrepid coach load of 31 students from Year 4 and 5 set off at 5.45am to play in the St Andrews, Rayong ONE DAY , ONE GOAL Charity 5-a-Side Football Tournament. We had representing teams in the U’9 boys and girls tournaments and had also taken the gamble entering our Year 5 teams into the boys and girls U’11 tournaments. It was great to have the opportunity to play many schools that we don’t normally get to play and the atmosphere was certainly in the “friendly” tournament bracket which was just the way our teams approached it.
Many of our U’9 boys were enjoying their first opportunity to wear the Patana colours and certainly grew into them as the day progressed. Over their 5 matches they managed to score an impressive 18 goals whilst only conceding 2 on the way to a memorable tournament win. Mr. Chris was hot on his squad rotation and everyone played their part in a very enjoyable day.
Our U’9 girls were in the same boat as the boys and it was great to be able invite all of our Year 4 girls who attend our Thursday ECA to play. Due to some teams dropping out at the last minute the girls played in a round robin format with 4 other teams scoring 13 goals and conceding just 1 on their way to being crowned tournament champions too. Miss Michelle and the parents were left feeling very proud of a young team bursting with confidence by the end of their day.
Our Year 5 Boys were certainly not fazed by the prospect of playing in the U’11 tournament and played every match with a great team ethic. The teams’ passing and spatial awareness ensured that defences were hard pressed to contain the boys as they won all six of their games scoring 22 goals and conceding none on their way to a tournament win. I was certainly delighted by the boys’ positive attitude to each other and the opposition as I am sure their parent were too.
Our Year 5 girls were missing a few regulars for their daunting challenge in their U’11 tournament but all of the girls raised their games with some great individual and team performances during the day. The girls had progressed to the final undefeated in their previous three matches, and went onto record a narrow 0-1 loss. They certainly deserved their Silver medals from their day with 8 goals scored and only 2 conceded and Miss Fiona was very pleased with everyone’s improving football during the tournament.
A huge thank you to all of the staff at St Andrews for making us feel so welcome and to the coaches who made the trip possible. Thanks also to our supportive parents and of course to all of the students who played great football with an even greater positive attitude.
