5B PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU BRING IN YOUR INDEPENDENT READING BOOK AND YOUR READING DIARIES TOMORROW. PUT THEM IN YOUR SCHOOL BAG AS SOON AS YOU FINISH READING TONIGHT. EVERYBOODY REMEBERED THEIR READING DIARIES LAST WEEK - WELL DONE. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR READING DIARY IS FILLED IN SO I CAN CLEARLY SEE WHAT AND HOW MUCH YOU HAVE READ OVER THE LAST WEEK. THANKS!

Reading recommendations:

Your home learning tonight to practise using connectives when you write sentences. It is very important to be able to use connectives when you write because they let you add more meaning to your sentences and make your writing more interesting.

Click on this link for the connective activities.

http://www.patana.ac.th/UploadCentre/Staff/BEHA/Connectives_1.pdf

Please complete all the tasks in your literacy home learning books. I want you to rewrite the sentences in your book, not just fill in the sheet. Please use your neatest handwriting (joined if you can).

An extra optional writing task:

Write 100 word story (it could be about anything) including the connectives: because, despite, however, although, after that, since. Post it as a blog comment.

Recommended Books

Published Sunday, September 01, 2013.
Last updated: Sunday, September 01, 2013

Last week at the Year 5 Parents Meeting, many of your parents asked for a list of recommended books for 9-10 year old. Here it is!

http://www.patana.ac.th/UploadCentre/Staff/BEHA/Year_5_Reading_Recommendations.docx

Remember, reading every day is SO SO SO important to your development as a learner. Non-fiction is great for finding out about the weird and wonderful world we live in, but reading quality fiction (stories) is how you learn how good authors use their imaginations and where you will pick up new words and phrases to use in your own writing. Keep recording your daily reading in your reading diary, and bring it in every Wednesday, so I can check what and how much you are reading each day. Remember, a quick flick through an information book or a five minute read of a favourite picture book does not need to go into your reading diary, the pages you have read of your fiction book does.

This list is just the ‘tip of the iceberg’ really. There are many, many more fantastic books out there. Please share your favourite books (one book or a  series) as a comment at the end of this post.

Happy Reading!

Watership Down by Richard Adams is one of my favourite books of all time. It is great for children and adults. Lots of adventure with a touch of fantasy, and at times very sad. A challenging read - one for you all to look forward to in a few years time.

Matilda by Roald Dahl

Matilda have parents that call her some terrible things, but shes a genius she can calculate anything in seconds.
She meets her teacher mrs honey, who is kind and caring, but first she needs to get past her spiteful headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, as well as discovering that she has a very special power.
