Maths Home Learning
Dear Maths Group,
Today in class we were thinking about reflecting a shape in a mirror line. For your home learning tonight I would like you to practise. Make sure you draw out and reflect the shapes in your book, not on the sheet. You will need a ruler and a sharp pencil. Start with the five reflections on ‘Mirror, Mirror’, and then if you have time do the ‘Patchwork Quilts’ reflections. Books back on Wednesday please. I have also set a symmetry myimaths for you – this is optional!
Thanks, Mr Ben

Character Descriptions
Due Thursday 10.1.13
Good writers use show not tell to reveal (show) what characters are like. We are exploring this technique by reading and thinkng about the characters in 'The Wind in the Willows'. You can do this by describing what the character looks like, what they do, or by adding some dialogue. Here is an example:
Tell: The boy from the rainforest was kind and looked fun.
Show: The boy from the rainforest walked towards me and held out his empty hands in what looked like a friendly greeting. He had a twinkle in his eye as he smiled at me.
Tell: Mrs Snapdragon was mean.
Show: Mrs Snapdragon’s upper lip curled as she shot a look of fury at me. She beckoned me towards her desk with her bony finger and let me stand there, waiting for her anger.
Try turning these character sentences into a much better character descriptions using show not tell. Two or three quality sentences for each will do the job. A thesaurus will be useful to use some impressive words.
Bert Biglow was nasty.
Bob was nervous.
Leslie was very energetic.
Susan was fed up (sad).
Sam was lazy.
John was angry.
The river Qom is located in Iran but we did it on Pauls iPhone so we could not paste the map or a picture
Well done boys for being first in. Paul, we will talk about the iphone tomorrow.
Bert scowled as he walked towards me, brandishing his fists. With a snarl, he punched me in the face.
Bob chewed his lib nervously as he waited for the dentist. He wiped his brow that was covered in sweat.
Leslie jumped around the mall, after drinking a energy drink. She was acting like a monkey.
Susan threw her mop onto the floor and shouted "I HATE CHORES!". Tears welled up in her eyes.
Sam slumped on the couch and asked me to pick up the remote for him. He was really tired of swimming for 2 hours.
John gave me a look like he was going to rib my hand off. He was really angry about last night.
