On Monday we visited Scoozi's, a restaurant specialising in pizza, to watch a pizza being made and sample their wonderful pizzas.

It was interesting watching the chefs at work and see how they get the pizza to be so thin, large and round - without using a rolling pin.

The pizza tasted wonderful and we all enjoyed our visit.

Thank you, Scoozi's. We really enjoyed our visit.

Rice Paddy Poetry

Published Tuesday, March 27, 2012.
Last updated: Tuesday, March 27, 2012

To start to understand how it feels like for a rice farmer, we trampled through some troughs that had been specially prepared for rice planting. Afterwards, we thought about sounds that we could hear and how it felt on our feet. Then we created poems.

These are some of our poems:

My Exciting Gooey Day

by Stuti

Splish, splash, splosh,

Soggy, sticky goo.

Mud on my toes

Gluey gungy mud.

Water all around

Splish, splash, splosh!

Sticky Paddyfield

by Tonnaam

Yucky mucky paddyfields

Gluey, sticky, slimy too.

Muddy, soggy, watery.

Plodding through the paddyfield.

Gummy, gurgling,

Splish, splash, splosh!

Gooey Muddy Field

by Alerik

Splodge, splash, splish,

When I put my feet in.

Yucky, soggy, muddy -

I feel it on my feet.

Rice is Nice!

Published Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
Last updated: Wednesday, March 14, 2012

This half-term's theme is 'Rice is Nice'. We started off this theme thinking about what we know about rice and then asked questions about what we'd like to know. We wrote our own questions. Here are some of them:

  • Where does rice grow? - Kieran
  • Which country has the most rice? - Pragathi
  • When do people grow rice? - Alerik
  • How does rice come from a plant? - Max
  • Why does rice have many colours? - Patrick
  • What are the ingredients of rice? Shaurya
  • Why is rice important? - Temin
  • Why is rice yummy? - Karin
  • Why is rice a healthy food? - Cream
  • How do we grow rice? - Pontus O.
  • What is rice? - Tonnaam
  • Which is the healthiest type of rice and why? - Stuti
  • What kind of rice is the most popular? - Manahil
  • What is the journey of rice? - Sammy
  • Why do people in China use chopsticks to eat rice? - Tanya
  • When was rice first discovered? - Archie

We started off by learning about what rice is, what it is made of, its' ingredients and how and why it is healthy.

We worked in home groups of four. Each group member became an expert on one area. Back in our home groups we taught our other group members what we had learned.

Miss Kay gave us a choice of how we could present our learning. We had to include information about:
  • what rice is
  • the different parts of rice
  • how rice helps to keep us healthy
  • staple foods

Some of us created posters.

Some of us created leaflets.

Some of us wrote a rice quiz with answers.

Miss Kay is very proud of our learning. She says that we are excellent communicators and thinkers and that we are independent learners!
