4R: Come and look at our learning!

Poetry workshop

Published Saturday, September 15, 2012.
Last updated: Saturday, September 15, 2012

On Monday 4R and 4P participated in an inspiring poetry workshop with the challenge of finding the best words and putting them in the best order.  They used the subject of Bangkok landmarks to write descriptive words and phrases.

children hopping with excitement

I hear speedy cars and thunderous planes

A miniature city of China

jet engines breaking the sound barrier

Neon bright lights sparkling

I am made of gold, love and affection

I hear sounds from all directions

I feel so tired holding the cars

rain pouring on me giving me a wash

A giant spider web of diamonds glittering

I look like a lantern at sunset

I look like the gold shimmering sun

I can taste car tires and rotten shoes

I look like sails on boats

Can you think of a descriptive phrase for one of these landmarks or a famous landmark that you have visited?

“Drop Pins” Project

This half term our learning theme is “Drop Pins”. We will be learning about landmarks and features of different places.

Select tasks from the Smarts below. You will need to create a total of at least 15 pins.

Word Smart

Choose a manmade landmark. Find out about its history (when it was made, who made it, why it was made, how it was made, what it is/was used for). Produce a fact sheet or PowerPoint slide to show what you have discovered.

10 pins

Logic Smart

Plot landmarks on a world map. Use Google Earth to help you locate them. For ideas and suggestions of places that you could plot, take a look at this website: http://www.7wonders.org/. Download a blank map here or ask your teacher for a copy.

5 pins

Picture Smart

Create a picture or model of a famous landmark from your home country. You may choose whichever materials you like to create your masterpiece, e.g. paint, recycled materials, fabric.

10 pins

Nature Smart

Choose a natural landmark, e.g. The Great Barrier Reef, the Amazon River. Find out about the types of plants and / or animals that live there. Produce a fact sheet or PowerPoint slide to show what you have discovered.

10 pins

Body Smart

Create a dance or drama to illustrate the construction of a landmark of your choice. Film it and email it or be prepared to perform to your classmates!

5 pins

Music Smart

Write a rap, a song or create a short composition inspired by a natural landmark. Record it and play it back to your class or perform it for your classmates!

10 pins

People Smart

Interview a family member about their favourite landmark and their reasons why. Record and/or present your findings in any way you choose, e.g. a recording, a news report.

5 pins

Self Smart

Think about a landmark that you have visited. Consider what you learned about it, what you learned from the experience and how you felt. Write a reflective recount.

It is one of the best recognized Architecture of the World. It was built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan in the loving memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Taj mahal is regarded as number One wonder of the world. Tajmahal seems to glow in the light of Moon. Taj is the Symbol of "LOVE" and "a monument of immeasurable beauty".

The Taj Mahal is an iconic example of Mughal architecture and one of the most well known buildings in the world.

The Taj Mahal is widely considered one of the most beautiful buildings ever created. The exquisite marble structure in Agra, India, is a mausoleum, an enduring monument to the love of a husband for his favorite wife.
Shah Jahan poured his passion and wealth into the creation of just such a monument. It is said that 20,000 stone carvers, masons, and artists from across India and as far as Turkey and Iraq were employed under a team of architects to build the Taj Mahal in the lush gardens on the banks of Agra’s Jamuna River. They completed the epic task between 1631 and 1648.

Shah Jahan himself gazed upon that beautiful image until the end of his days—but as a prisoner, not a ruler. His son Aurangzeb seized the Mughal throne and imprisoned his father in Agra’s Red Fort (itself a World Heritage site and popular tourist attraction). Whether as consolation or torture, Shah Jahan commanded a view of the Taj Mahal from his window.

Different types of marbles used in construction of Taj Mahal were brought over from many different regions & countries: Rajasthan, Punjab, China, Tibet, Afghanistan, Srilanka, & Arabia.

I visited Taji mahal this summer.Taji reflects the collour of the sky and moonlight.
It was so fantastic and so magical.
