K1: We Play! We Think! We Learn!

Week beginning 25th February

Well the weather is definitely heating up! Last week, we were doing lots of exciting outdoor activities set up for us by our teachers! Sand and water have been our focus, and on the blog you can see some pictures of us doing lots of different learning activities with coloured sand and water. We are beginning to look at creatures that live under the sea and we have talked lots about the words that are to do with water and the ocean.

As part of our literacy development, a lot of us have been making story books with Mrs Margaret. There have been some great pictures and retellings of traditional tales, from Snow White to Jack and the Beanstalk! We have also been constructing on a large scale, especially our train tracks. Our longest track this week stretched all the way from the staff room to K1R, almost 5 metres!

This week we will be reading the story ‘A fish that could wish’ and working on large pieces of collaborative art in our classes. We will also be starting to use the sensory stream to float boats in, so please be aware that our clothes might get wet this week!

Speak to you soon!

What a busy week we had last week! It was really nice to see our friends again and we spent some time talking to each other about what we did on our holidays. Some of us went a very long way away! Last week our story focus was ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy. A lot of us had made jam sandwiches, and some of us even went on a trip to the moon! We made a rocket ship in the Year 5/6 lift and had a picnic upstairs, it was lots of fun. There are some pictures of our trip on the blog!

On Thursday we had a very exciting day as it was our very first Sports Day! We went around lots of exciting stations put together by the fantastic PE teachers, which were all to do with stories that we knew. It was hot and sweaty work but lots of fun was had by everyone. It was so nice to see so many of our mums and dads there too!

On Friday, we celebrated our home languages in a very funny Foundation Stage assembly. Our teachers put on a performance of ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and we listened for our own languages every time we had to say ‘run run as fast as you can’! It was great to hear so many of the languages that we speak in the Foundation Stage.

This week we are beginning to look at water and thinking of things that we might see under the sea! We will be making boats and  exploring how different objects and materials behave in the water. It should be very exciting!

See you soon!

Golly what a terrific week of fun learning! We heard all about the moon. Hector and Noah had so much fun at school this week they wanted to come to k1 on the bank holiday! I love the moon helmets!

Lucy enjoyed the gingerbread man and is very proud that she has 'homework' and needs to learn about the rain and the sun !

To celebrate our home languages, we have been retelling the story of the familiar story 'The Gingerbread Man'. Thank you for all your gingerbread men contributions! We have attached the story so that you can tell it to your child in your home language.
