Welcome to 6L
Welcome to 6L!!
Wow, what a week. You have thrown yourselves into the new school year with lots of art work and creative writing and I have been so impressed with the fantastic attitude you have all brought to every aspect of your learning. This has been a great start and I'm sure it will continue throughout the year.
6L 2012-13 - Don't they look sweet?
Don't let the cute smile fool you, this is what they usually look like:
Literacy and Connected Learning Home Learning
This week we have been thinking about what it means to be a hero and what a hero means to us. Are heroes people who win gold medals? Or people who work hard to improve every day? Do they inspire us by their success or their perseverence?
For your connected learning I would like you to research one of the great scientists we have discussed in class. Try to find out about their life and work but also the effect their discoveries have had on the world.
For your Literacy home learning I would like you to present your learning in a clear and interesting way. This means that you have to present your research in your own words accompanied by pictures, drawings or diagrams that could explain the subject. Please remember that this work will be displayed on the wall so needs to be appropriate but creative - posters, booklets, reports - anything that shows off your wonderful research.
You may select from these inspirational scientists:
- Louis Pasteur
- Albert Einstein
- Wilhelm Roentgen
- Alexander Fleming
- Michael Faraday
- Edward Jenner
- Alexander Graham Bell
- Charles Darwin
- Marie and Pierre Curie
- Jane Goodall
- Guglielmo Marconi
- Benjamin Franklin
- Galileo Galilei
- Steven Hawking
- Isaac Newton
- Isambard Kingdom Brunel
Maths Home Learning
This week's home learning has a focus on multiplication and can be found here. This is an opportunity for you to show all the different calculation strategies that you are familiar with. Please record all of your working out neatly in your homework book and remember to use one box for each digit. Feel free to email me if you have any problems.
Y7 here we come!
Y6 is over - Y7 here we come!!!!
But at least we ended Y6 with a bang!!
First, we brought our parents to tears with some very moving singing at our leavers assembly then got them cheering with some amazing swimming at the final Inter Class Sports competition which we WON!!
The end of the year, of course, ended with some sadness as we said one and a half farewells. We lost Owen who will be returning to the UK and we half lost Rony - hopefully we will find out soon if he will be leaving Patana for Singapore. We wish them both the very best and hope to hear from them very soon.
Finally, I would like to say a final farewell to you all. You have been a wonderful class and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know you all. I wish you good luck for year 7 and look forward to hearing all about it. I would also like to thank you (and your parents) for your generous gifts and cards, I look forward to sticking all the cards onto my new fridge in my new apartments when I get back from America. Until then, watch this space - Harry Pottor world, here I come!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you - for such an amazing week! I can't believe how much we have done - Theseus, Busking Day, DT and Greek Day - all in one week!
All of Y6 has been sprinkled with togas today as we 'went Greek', learning how to arm wrestle, imitate chickens and (for the boys), walk around in a skirt. 6L did particularly well in the Olympic Games, especialy Callum who won a gold medal in the Flags event. Well done Callum!
Pictures from Greek Day can be found here.
What a talented bunch we are! Musicians, comedians, dancers, puppeteers, magicians and lots more! Well done to everyone who took part, you raised a lot of money for a very good cause. A special mention has to go to Jasmina and Anna-Maria who performed on the 'Main Stage' - you were fantastic.
We still have a long way to go but our DT models already look amazing. Next week we should be able to pubklish some wonderful pictures of the final product.
On Tuesday morning, 6L proved that they are not only impressive actors but also directors, producers, script writers and, most especially, collaborators. They worked together to write a four act play, worked together to practise and improve their acting skills and worked together to stage it at 4 different locations around the school. I was so proud of the way you all treated each other and each other's ideas with respect. Well done.
Alyssia and Desiree
As we get to the end of the school year, it is inevitable that our attention turns to Y7 and the move to secondary school. Two of our class moved on to these greener pastures this week and both with be greatly missed by 6L and all of Y6. Alyssia will be moving to New York this summer while Desiree moves to Japan. We wish them both the very best of luck and can't wait to hear all about their great adventures very soon.
Once a 6L - always a 6L!
There is no Mathematics or Literacy home learning this week, there is only one thing I want you to do - PRACTISE!!
Your main task is to ensure you are fully prepared for our Greek production on Monday, including organising your costume and props if you have them at home, learning your lines off by heart and remembering your movements for each scene such as entrances and exits.
As soon as we finish our play, we will be starting our DT project. You have seen the examples and discussed ideas, now get planning. Please come to our DT day on Wednesday ready with lots of ideas and annotated plans. I can't wait to see how they turn out!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Theseus - Here we come!
What a week!!!!
NCTs are a distant memory as our attention turns to serious business - our end of year production. This week, our class split into 4 groups to begin to write the 4 different scenes of Theseus and they are shaping up nicely. Your home learning task this week is to carry on the script writing by email and to ensure that not only does every team member take part in the writing but also that they get some good lines in the play. Remember - don't just write comedy, we need some drama and sad parts too. Please also remember to copy me into group emails.
We also had our interclass football tournament which went swimmingly (the puddles were impressive!). Well done to everyone who took part with a particular congratulations to our mixed team who earned a Bronze Certificate - well done!!!!
