Maths Home Learning - Due 6th February

Published Thursday, January 17, 2013.
Last updated: Thursday, January 17, 2013

This week we have been studying algebra - DON'T PANIC!!!!  I promise that we have only just started and we will be spending lots more time on this.

However - we need practise.  Please complete this sheet using both methods we have been learning this week.

The home learning is not due in until the week after both residentials so I would like you to spend 30 minutes on each side of the sheet - 1 hour in total.

This week's task - investigation!!!!

This week we have been studying timetables so your challenge is to use the timetables you have been given to plan a day trip which minimises journey time and maximises sight seeing (and souvenir shopping!) time.  It can also be found here.

Your plan should explain your finalised itinerary and justify why you think it is the optimal (best) solution. I would like this project to be displayed as a wonderful example of your logic and skill so please present it in your own unique, creative style but make it appropriate for display on the wall.

Have fun.

Thailand and Tourism Project

Published Friday, January 11, 2013.
Last updated: Friday, January 11, 2013

This term we will be studying the impact of tourism on the economy, environment and people of Thailand.  The home learning portion of this theme is to select an aspect of Thailand, research it thoroughly and present your findings to your class.  Below is a list of suggested topics however you are welcome to focus on other areas.

You will have 6 weeks to plan, research, prepare and present your inquiry.  You should complete one stage of your inquiry each week and bring your learning to class each Wednesday so you to share your ideas with your class mates and we can monitor your progress.

Assessment

Your project will be assessed according to a rubric.

Home Learning 11th January 2013

  1. Read the attached rubric and circle any words or phrases which you don’t understand.
  2. Use a highlighter pen to assess yourself by marking the skills which you believe you already demonstrate fully.  Try to be honest and objective.
  3. Choose one sections from the rubric which you would like to focus on and use these to set yourself a target.
  4. Select as aspect of Thailand that you want to focus on.
  5. Create a list of 3 open questions which will help guide your project.

  • Thai food
  • Thai dance
  • Thai football
  • Muay Thai boxing
  • Biography of a specific Thai person
  • Locations in Thailand
  • Farming

What does it mean to be a responsible tourist?

Why do people visit Thailand?
