CHINESE NEW YEAR ASSEMBLY

"My name is Beryl. I come from Taiwan and every year my family celebrates Chinese New Year. In our first act the children are going to tell you a little bit about Chinese New Year and what to expect in the Year of the Tiger."

 First Act: Information about Chinese New Year and the Year of the Tiger

"Long ago in ancient China ladies were supposed to be very elegant and lady like. They were not supposed to move around in a lively way but sometimes when the sun was shining the ladies could not help themselves from dancing with joy around their gardens. This Chinese dance shows the ladies dancing with happiness among the butterflies."

Second Act: The Butterfly Dancers

"My name is Eric. Kung Fu is a very popular Chinese Martial Art. Kung Fu teaches you fighting styles to use in self-defense, to keep you healthy and to help you develop self discipline. A Year 3 student will demonstrate some Khung Fu moves for you."

Third Act: Kung Fu

"My name is Sasha. We are very lucky because a student from Year 13 has been given permission by Mr. Smith, Secondary Principal to come to our Chinese New Year assembly. He is going to sing us a Chinese Song."

Fourth Act: Chinese Song

"If you ever have the chance to visit China, look out for their beautiful fans. Many of them are painted by hand and reveal beautiful flowers, butterflies and gardens. A student from Year 13, is now going to show us a performance called Chinese Fan Movement."

Fifth Act: Dancing with a Fan

 Dancing with a Fan

"No Chinese New Year celebration would be complete without the Lion Dancers. The Lion Dancers sweep out the old and bring in the new. This week- end all over China the Lion Dancers will be dancing. To encourage the Lion Dancers to come and dance at our celebration the Year 3 Choir will sing two Happy New Year songs."
