More Patana Life

The 1989 Oxford English Dictionary defines a time capsule as "a container used to store for posterity a selection of objects thought to be representative of life at a particular time."

1990 Time Capsule

In 1990, Bob Kennett, Chair of Governors at that time, presided over the burying of a time capsule containing a cache of items representing life at Patana in 1989. As one of the first of the official 50th Anniversary celebrations, Bob returned to Patana to supervise the opening of the capsule on Tuesday 24 April 2007.

Items inside the capsule included a copy of the bangkok Post, a School Prospectus, a ten baht note and the plans of the proposed new school buildings. The capsule was buried in the concrete base of the old school flag pole.

"Wow.. talk about a flashback to the past. I was one of the students present when they sealed this capsule and remember the day very clearly. Myself and a few friends (Devan, Erik, Bishan, and Claudia - you can see our names on the list) were pulled out of class to make a trip to the new campus that was still under construction for the sealing of the capsule. We were all excited as can be about the idea. Every once in a while I remember that day and have wondered if the capsule was still there, or if anyone even knew about it since the flagpole was moved. It's so great to see it opened up for another generation of students to see."
