Scientist visits K2.
As part of  our 'Knowledge and understanding of the world', we have been discovering all about the world of science and have been trying out some simple experiments in our classrooms. We have got our own 'laboratory' set up for the children to explore magnets, electricity and even make potions.Yesterday, the children in K2 were treated to a visit from a real scientist from High School. Dr.Louise came down and wowed us with potions that changed colour, things that caught fire and some things that went bang! Some of the children were mini scientists and got to wear white coats and goggles too. Lots of the K2 children want to be scientists now - thank you Dr.Louise. Don't forget to have a look at our pictures too.

Tiger day.

The K2 children had a lovely Tiger Day making lots of pictures, paintings and puppets with tigers on. They especially enjoyed the visit from some of the students in Y6 who came to make book marks with them and join in the other tiger activities too. It was lovely to have fun and raise money for children who are not as lucky as our children.

Loy Krathong
The children have had a lovely time this week celebrating the Thai water festival known as Loy Krathong. They looked lovely in their Thai costumes and had a very busy day making krathongs, playing Thai games and watching some Thai crafts.

Diwali in K2.
The children have had a wonderful morning in K2 celebrating Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. The children moved around the K2 block visiting all of the other classrooms where they decorated rangoli patterns with coloured rice,  dressed up in Indian costumes, took part in the Ramayana story, decorated a diya [candle] with playdough and used a variety of materials to decorate their hands with mendhi patterns. Please take a look at some of our photos.

Pat a cake, pat a cake!

Over the past few weeks K2A have had a wonderful time doing lots of activities around the nursery rhyme ‘Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, Baker's Man'.  This has included lots of discussions about the children's own experiences of visiting a Bakery and about what they like about baking.  The children then built their own Pat-a-Cake Bakery in the classroom which they have used for playing the role of a Baker.  The children also got the chance to visit the Bakery in the Secondary school, and helped to make an ‘apple, raisin cake', which:

"It was yummy, right, I loved it!"  (Sam)

"It smelled and taste so yummy, I want to eat it again!"  (Julianne)

The children have also had the opportunity to make their own cakes, bread and pastries using play dough, salt dough, and real ingredients which they sold on Friday in their Bakery to their Parents and Teachers!  K2A definitely have some ‘Super Star Bakers' and ‘Fantastic Bakery Servers!'

Miss Amy and Miss Harsha had great time too!

It is great to be back at school and we are busy exploring the K2 block and making lots of new friends. Come and look at our photos to see what we have been up to.

Would you like to go on a bear hunt?

This week we have been sharing the story of 'We're going on a bear hunt' by Michael Rosen. The children have been helping their teachers read the story and even making their own games too. All week the tension has been mounting in K2 in preparation for our bear hunt. The children have been saying "Will it be a white bear?", "Do you think it will be friendly?" and "I am not afraid of a bear!".

The children spent all morning visiting the other K2 classrooms. They had the opportunity to make bears out of card and playdough, to measure and weigh bears, to draw bears and of course to make sandwiches and ice cookies for our picnic. Hunting bears is hungry work don't you know!

After lunch we all changed into our swimming clothes and headed off to look for bears. We had to go through swishy swashy grass, across a cold river, through squelchy mud, pas a big dark forest and through a snow storm. It was great fun, but exhausting. Did we find one I hear you ask?........well you will just have to find a K2 child and ask!
