Trip to the zoo.
As part of this terms topic on megabeasts, the K2 children were taken on a trip to the Dusit Zoo. We left school on three big buses first thing in the morning and arrived at the zoo in time for snack. Immediately after we all got onto a tram and had a ride around the zoo where our 'animal spotting' could start. Tokens were offered to the first children to see a real animal. The level of excitement was high and all around you could hear 'Look at that', 'What is that called?' Some children were brave and went into the nocturnal house, while others were lucky enough to see the penguins being fed. Not everyone spotted the wombats, who were in a deep sleep! The hippos were having a cooling dip in their pool and we watched as they went under the water and then popped their heads out to breathe. One child was heard saying 'They are like hairy islands!' Another high light was watching the huge catfish with their long whiskers swimming in the lake - one child asked 'Are they called moustache fish?' A great deal of fun was had by all - well done K2 children!

International fun!
This week in K2 we had an amazing time taking part in all of the International activities. On Tuesday we had a whirl wind trip around the world ‘visiting' five countries; Japan, Mexico, Australia, Ireland and China. On Wednesday we loved visiting the yummy Food Hall and watching the Parade. Also, the K2 children and teachers really enjoyed the cultural show which was both colourful and entertaining! We visited the Expo on Thursday and the children loved walking around all of the exhibits; playing the games, collecting the stickers and stamps and finding out lots about all of the countries on show. We found it really hard to get them to leave when our time was up, but at least that showed us how much they had enjoyed themselves. We hope that you had fun too!

Minibeast token day.
Well the day finally arrived, and as if by magic, all 5 classes had reached their target of 100 tokens. We had a lovely day completing minibeast activities in and out of the classroom. We played minibeast dominoes, made minibeast hats, made plasticine models of minibeasts and even went on a minibeast hunt. It was amazing where those minibeasts had got to! When snacktime arrived we were treated to ladybird cookies. In the afternoon the whole of K2 buzzed down to the auditorium to put on a special assembly for their parents. The children proudly sung and danced their little minibeast hearts out - they were amazing! Now it is all quiet in K2 as all of our little minibeasts have flown, slithered, crawled and fluttered their way home for a fantastic holiday. Well done K2!

Tiger Spirit Day
The K2 children had a lovely day on Tuesday when it was 'Tiger Spirit Day'. Everyone was dressed in shades of orange and black and there were lots of tigerstripes around too! The children were involved in making tiger pictures, tiger masks, tiger puppets - in fact lots of tigers were found in the K2 block. We had a special assembly on the green area where we sang tiger songs and even did some tiger dancing!! But one of the highlights of the day was being visited by some of the Y6 students who came to make book marks with us. A great example of team work.

Diwali - the festival of light.
Diwali is the Hindu festival of light and the K2 team could not resist yet another opportunity to dress up! The children in K2 participated in five different activities as they moved around the Year Group. In Mr. M's class the children were involved in observational drawings of Indian objects involved in the "Puja", in Miss. Chree's class they painted their own diyas and in Miss. Tracey's class the children had fun dressing in traditional Indian clothes and having their photograph taken. Diwali cards were made in Miss. Amy's class, while the fifth activity, in Miss. Stella's classroom, was using coloured rice to make beautiful Rangoli patterns. To finish off the morning, everyone then met in the shared area to take part in some Indian dancing in true Bollywood style - great fun and good exercise! The children and staff had a great day.

Teddy Bears Picnic.
If you went down to K2 today you would have been surprised because there were some VERY BIG K2 children around. [Although some said that it was the teachers dressed in school uniforms!] The K2 children and staff were celebrating their first token day because each class had reached its target of 100 tokens - well done K2! The children took part in a range of ‘bear' activities in the morning including making jam sandwiches, decorating cookies, drawing bears, playing bear games and making masks. The highlight was definitely the picnic in the afternoon when everyone took their bear outside to enjoy the sandwiches, cookies and juice. Everyone went home tired after a fun filled day and can now start to look forward to our next token day party. I wonder what we will be!!

Visit to Cafe Patana
We think that play is a vitally important part of the development and learning of your children. So with this in mind we turned role play into reality, when the whole year group visited a real Café. Well actually, not a real Café but the foyer of the Sports Hall that the K2 team had carefully set up as a café for the children to visit. In preparation, the children listened to the story of ‘Mrs. Wobble the Waitress' by Janet and Allan Ahlberg and watched some of the K2 teachers role-playing a visit to a café. It was then time to put these skills into action in the real setting. Each class visited for an hour and worked in small groups to make, serve, eat and pay for a healthy sandwich and a drink. It was a fantastic language opportunity and it was definitely a case of ‘learning by doing' in a purposeful and meaningful setting. All around you could see and hear the children using the language of cafes. Waiters could be heard asking "Would you like cheese, ham or egg in your sandwich?" While cashiers were busy on the telephone saying "What time would you like to book a table for Sir?" Many children enjoyed making the sandwiches or answering the telephone. But I think eating the sandwiches was by far the most popular choice! The visit really is one of the highlights of the K2 calendar and both children and staff agreed that it was great fun. Who knows it might even lead to lots of cooking and serving of food and drinks at home!

Our National Gallery visit.
All of the children and teachers in K2 are preparing for their very own Art Exhibition in June. They have been busy finding out about mixing colours and painting sunflowers in the style of Vincent Van Gogh. To find some inspiration for their own canvases we went to visit the National Gallery. The children saw some traditional Thai paintings, sculptures, abstract art and some amazing photographs too. Many of the children enjoyed sketching in their own sketch books and have returned to school full of ideas about what they are going to paint. So watch this space!!

Bear hunt activity day.
The staff and children in K2 had an amazing day yesterday all inspired by Michael Rosen's book 'We're going on a bear hunt'. Everyone arrived in 'bear' colours at the start of the day and then began a rotation of activities around the 6 classes. The children made bear masks, retold the story with props, drew teddybears, made split pin puppets, drew bear hunt maps and even made bears out of playdough! At snacktime the children enjoyed polar bear cupcakes. But the highlight of the day had to be our very own bear hunt in the afternoon. We were all feeling very brave as we set off into the school grounds to look for that bear. On our journey we had to navigate our way through long grass, a river, mud, a forest and would you believe it - a snowstorm - before finding the bears cave. Luckily she was really quite friendly! A day the K2 children won't forget for a long time.

We have been to the zoo!!
As part of our topic on Mega beasts the K2 children went on their first BIG school visit to Dusit Zoo. We had a lovely time watching tigers, ant eaters, elephants, a hippopotamus and penguins, as well as many, many other animals. It was lovely to see these animals that we have been learning about and looking at in books come to life! The children were able to climb up on a platform and see 'eye to eye' with the giraffes and well as watching the monkeys swinging from tree to tree. We had a lovely day!
