Last Week of Term, Songkran and the Holidays

Welcome to the last week of Term 2, and what a wonderful term it has been. Many thanks to all of the parents and the children for making the 3-Way Conferences a great success. The children were much more confident in sharing their learning and it was lovely to hear them talk about all of the things they had done and learned about since January.

The last week of term is just as busy and exciting as all of the others! We have our Songkran Splash morning on Tuesday (please keep an eye out in the children's Red Books for details of everything) and our special Songkran Assembly on Friday morning in the Sports Hall.

Next term there are many things to look forward to - there is the visit of Cat Weatherill, our visiting storyteller, who will be with us in the first week back after the Songkran break, we will be having a fantastic whizz-bang science 'show' to introduce our electric learning theme "It's Shocking", the Swimming Gala is in May and of course we are still very much hoping that our sleepover will be going ahead; the provisional date for this is Thursday 19th June.

We would like to wish you all a fabulous Songkran break, wherever you go and whoever you see ... we will look forward to hearing all about it when the children return for the start of Term 3 on Monday 21st April. Have a great last week and Songkran break to follow.

Kind regards,

The Year 2 Team.

Penultimate Week

We are loooking forward to meeting you for our 3-Way Conferences next week. The children will enjoy sharing their learning with you.

Our visiting author, Robin Price, was very much enjoyed by the children last Thursday and we think they will really enjoy the visit of Cat Weatherill, our visiting storyteller, who is coming in the first week back after the Songkran break.

With our visiting author, Robin Price, still to look forward to this term, science investigations still to do and all things Pirates still inspiring the children, we are looking forward to the learning they will be achieving.

Year 2 Update

This week has seen a lot of non-chronological reports being prepapred and written about pirates - there are some wonderfully imaginative children in the year group and consequently there are definitley pirates you would not want to meet evolving! The children continue to enjoy the ECA activities they have chosen - there are not that many weeks left of this term and hopefully they have already started to think about the kinds of activities they would like to do in Term 3.

Year 2 Update

The children have already enjoyed their annual Sports Day this half term and have now started some fun science investigations, using Pirates as the stimulus for their learning. There has been floating and sinking with treasure on silver foil ships and frictions tests to see which material it would be best to make a treasure chest out of so that it could be dragged more easily along the sand. There is still the canon firing investigation to come, which is always a favourite, once the children have done it! They are also starting to write non-chronological reports about pirates ... to find out more, please click on the curriculum link for our learning this term.

Welcome Back!

We have enjoyed the first few days back at school. The children are full of energy and have many tales to tell from their holidays - they sound like they have had a great time. We are continuing with our Pirate learning theme as we move from poetry to non-chronological reports over the next couple of weeks. Please check out the following link if you would would like to see more about our learning this term.

Have a great holiday

The Year 2 Team would like to wish all of the children and their families a wonderfully happy and safe holiday. We will look forward to seeing you all again and finding out all about your adventures when we see you at the start of next half term, on Monday 17th February.

Entering the last week of this half term!

*** STOP PRESS *** - Pirate performance trailer alert me hearties!

http://youtu.be/bjfogld8mH4

Our Pirate Production of the "Pirate Problem - Land Ahoy!" is reaching its final stages of rehearsal so that we will be able to perform it to all of the parents in the Theatre on the morning of Friday 7th February. Our start time will be as close to 08:00 (please note the slight change of time) as we are able to make it so that there will be plenty of time to finish our show, take photographs before the children have playtime and then head over to the Sports Hall for our Chinese New Year celebrations - see further information below.

There will be a DVD made of the children performance ... further details and forms to complete will be in the children's Red Books this week.

Friday 7th February will also be our celebrations for Chinese New Year. It will be a non-uniform day and the children may wear Chinese style clothes or clothes based on red, gold or yellow colours. There will be a Chinese New Year special assembly in the Sports Hall at 09.30, which promises to be an exciting experience, bringing the celebrations to life.

HAPPY NEW YEAR - Beach Update!

Our trip to the beach.

We are hoping that we will still go ahead with our Year 2 visits to the beach this week - 2T, 2M, 2S and 2L on Tuesday 14th January / 2P, 2A, 2R and 2E on Thursday 16th January. However, school is keeping a close eye on events in town and a final decision will be made on a day by day basis. It may be necessary to cancel our trip at the last moment but we are hoping that this won't be the case. If it is cancelled, you will be notified by email.

If we go, we will be leaving school promptly, so it would be appreciated if your child could be at school by 7.20am. We would like the children to wear their PE shirt, PE shorts, flip flops / crocs and Patana hat [these should already be in school].

Please do not send in any snacks as the children will not be able to eat them on the buses and they will have snack as soon as they arrive. They will also need to bring a spare PE kit, plastic bag and small towel in a named PE bag.

Please ensure that they have sunscreen applied at home. We are looking forward to an exciting day on the beach!

Kind regards,

The Year 2 Team.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Have a wonderful and safe holiday - we look forward to seeing everyone back on the 13th January 2014.

:-)

Kind regards,

The Year 2 Team.
