ASA SPEED GALA's
Throughout the academic year we host four mini meets known as ASA Speed Gala's. All TigerPrawns and TigerSharks are eligible to attend and the meets are limited to four events and one exhibition swim. Each meet is dedicated entirely to one stroke. The meet results include not only the times swum but also the relevant UK ASA Time Standard Achieved (AAA/AA/A/B/C). At the end of each term the students will receive a certificate based upon the number of UK Time Standards they achieve in each category.
GOLD Speed Award - 2 or More AAA or Higher Standards
SILVER Speed Award - 2 or More AA or Higher Standards
BRONZE Speed Award - 2 of More A or Higher Standards
Please note you can only gain ASA School Speed Awards at ASA Speed Gala's.
The first two ASA Speed Gala's of the year will now take place on March 9th (Freestyle) and March 16th (Butterfly) The Freestyle Gala was originally planned for February but with Primary Residentials in full swing it seems to make more sense to hold it a little later.

SENIORS CONQUER "GREAT WALL OF CHINA"
Each year our Senior TigerSharks take part in a fun sleep-over to bond as a team and take on some varied cross training. This years sleepover theme was the "Great Wall of China". Swimmers started the weekend with an 800m Time Trial Meet run by the students themselves and utilising our new Wireless Timing equipment. The 800m event was chosen as 8 is an auspicious number in Chinese culture. It was fantastic to see our swimmers take on roles including timekeeping, starting, refereeing and lap counting and experiencing first hand what it takes to run a successful swim meet. Congratulations Riki Matsumoto who broke the PTS 15 & Over 800m SC Record and our 13 - 14 Boys (Ajay, Brandon, Matt & Oliver) who broke the 4 x 200m Freestyle SC Relay Record.
Following the swimming and a quick snack the group split in two and whilst half of the group took part in a goal setting workshop lead by Coach Nic, the other half participated in a Tai Chi class lead by Katie Sloane (Sec English Faculty). The Tai Chi was a fantastic experience as the students learned about the history and legend of Ta Chi as well as basic Tai Chi movements. Several students expressed surprise at how challenging this gentle martial art can be on the muscles.
After a Chinese themed dinner (thank you Patana Catering Dept) it was time for a movie and some popcorn - we watched the new Karate Kid and were surprised to find the new terms we had learned in our Tai Chi lesson were also referenced in the movie.
The students slept over in the Sports Hall and rose early to swim once again. The workout was focused on 8's and everyone worked extremely hard. Our final activity was a Mixed Martial Arts class taught by Master Chai, a long time ECA provider at Patana. Master Chai and his assistants put our students through their paces, teaching them the best of various martial arts to be used for fitness and self defence. He also entertained the group with some great stories and demonstrations. The knife and nun chuck demonstrations were a favourite.
Upon completion of the weekend's activities all students were presented with a badge for their TigerSharks T Shirt which featured the Chinese symbol for Water. Congratulations all who took part.

MARTIN'S CUP 2012
The Martin's Cup is a local Thai meet to be held Feb 25 - 26 at Assumption University. This meet is a qualifier for Thailand National Championships which will be held April 26 - 29. The level of competition is quite high and the days can be long so this meet is best suited to swimmers in White, Gold or National squads or those swimmers in the Junior Extension squad. Entry information will be forwarded to those squads via e-mail.
