Some suggestions to help you with the matrix

Published Thursday, October 27, 2011.
Last updated: Thursday, October 27, 2011
Here are some ideas to help you with the activities we have asked you to complete on the matrix...

Poem
Have a look at some pictures or videos of the floods.  What do you see?
What do you hear? What do you feel?  Use these ideas to help you write a 'Capture the Moment' poem.

Design an invention that makes your life easier or other people's lives easier in the flood.
What is something you find hard or boring?  Getting up early? Finding things? Taking the dog for a walk? Cleaning the hamster cage?
Use your imagine to design something that would help - it doesn't have to possible.  Use your imagination.  Think of Phineas and Ferb!

Invent your own maths board game
Maybe a an addition adventure where you have to be the first to 100 and answer addition problems as you go.  You could base it on an existing game e.g. Snakes and Ladders or Connect 4.

Create a shoebox model of an inventors studio
What does your inventor invent?  What sort of things would an inventor need? Draw these things and stand them up in a shoe box.  Paint/colour the back ground.

Make up a list of the top 10 useless inventions
These would be thing that would not be that helpful. Like an alarm clock that sends you to sleep or a special safety knife that is so safe it can't cut anything!

Design the iPad 10
This is about imagining what an iPad might have in about 10 years time.  Use your imagination.  What about an iPad that has a Swiss arm knife into it?
Draw what it would look like and label and explain the different features.

Design your own 5 minute exercise routine
You could use music.  What exercises could you put together that would help people get fit?

Make up a story about an invention that goes wrong.
Think about
Who are the characters?
Where is the setting?
What is the invention?
How will it go wrong?
How will the problem be solved?
Draw a plan first to get all your ideas down.
Think about how will your story begin?

If you have any great ideas which you would like to share with the rest of Year 4, leave them here as a comment!

Good luck and stay safe from all the Y4 staff!

This homework is very fun because we get to choose what we want to do and present it in our own unique way.

Mrs Rachel has suggested these musical activities for you to have a go at:

Practise singing Lucy Locket, Snail Snail, Bounce High in the following ways:

  • Sing keeping the beat on your feet or hands
  • Sing clapping the rhythm
  • Sing clapping the rhythm and keeping the beat with your feet (trickier than you think!)
  • Sing using rhythm names (ta titi)
  • Sing with lyrics and show handsigns
  • Sing using so-mi-la and show handsigns
  • Sing in your head but still showing handsigns

Sing all the la’s out loud (so and mi in your head)

Practise Lucy Locket, Snail Snail, Bounce High on your recorders, both starting on G and on C.

See if you can find the mistakes on the Lucy Locket music.  Download the music using the link below.  Email Mrs Rachel rast@patana.ac.th or Mr Sharp mash@patana.ac.th with the answer.

I learnt that Loi Krathong is celebreted in the 12th month of the Thai Lunar calendar which is around November in the western calendar. Loi means to float and Krathong means lotus-shaped receptacle.
