FOBISSEA 2011 starts here.
FOBISSEA try outs start here!

Preparations for FOBISSEA 2011 started last week as the trialists took part in the first of their swimming time trials. Students were given an opportunity to demonstrate their freestyle, breast stroke, back stroke and butterfly strokes over 50m. There were some superb performances and it’s clear that selection is going to be very difficult this year.
Thank you to all those parents who turned out to support their children and those that helped with the time keeping.
Keep up the good work everyone,
The Primary PE Team

“Try a New Sport Week ‘’ in KS 2
“Try a New Sport Week ‘’ makes choosing fun in KS2 PE lessons.

Our KS2 Children have been involved in a new initiative called “Try a New Sport Week’’ in each of their PE lesson this week. With residential starting next week and running over two weeks, we have added this exciting new initiative between units and it certainly appears to have been a hit with our students. We have utilized the Primary PE and swim teams to find areas of expertise in sport and activities that we do not normally offer in the curriculum. Some of the options on offer across the different year groups included Kwik Cricket, Swedish Long Ball, Aussie Rules Football, Ultimate Frizbee ,Frizbee Golf ,Flippa Ball, Kayaking , Takraw, Kabadi, Badminton, Bouldering , Uni-hockey, Rugby and Thai dance.
The children relished being given the responsibility to make their own learning choices and the teachers enjoyed sharing personal favourites. With many of the options coming from different counties and cultures it also gave children to opportunity to enjoy sports they already know from outside of Patana or to try less well known activities. If the Calendar allows, this is certainly a new initiative that has proven to be both successful and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Here are a few examples of what the children thought;-
Sebie 6B - “An amazing experience as we got to choose a sport that we would not normally try. I liked playing Swedish Long Ball!”
Jack 6O - “It was so much fun because Coach Steve and Coach Nick offered Kayaking and showed us how to use the paddles and it was an amazing experience.”
Kashi 6T – “I enjoyed having the opportunity to choose what I wanted to do and found my choice of Thai Dancing to be peaceful and fun.”
Gaius 5R – “It was great making a choice and I found that batting and bowling in Kwik Cricket was fun.”
Genie 5J – “I loved learning to hold my breath for a long time while trying to tag and escape being tagged in Kabadi.”
Om 3L – “When I played Frizbee Golf it was hard and my partner was good but I got better and won the last hole.”
Prin 3K – “I liked making a choice and Thai Dancing was fun.”
Navraj 4G – “I really like hockey so it was great to have the chance to play Uni-Hockey and all of the players showed really good sportsmanship.”
Bua 4S - “I liked being able to choose as it is nice to have variety. Takraw was challenging as I kept missing the ball but I still enjoyed it a lot.”
A big thank you to Khun Boo ,Khun Took, Khun Goh, Coach Steve, Coach Nic, Khun Patcharee, Mr Chris and Miss Fiona for sharing their sporting loves with our most appreciative KS2 students.
Why don’t you try something new this week!
