Key Stage 2 Sports Day 2009
Key Stage 2 Sports Days Enjoy Perfect Conditions

Last week our Key Stage 2 children competed in their Interclass Sports Days. Here they were all given the opportunity to demonstrate their athletic prowess in a whole range of athletics events which they had been preparing for during their PE lessons. The students were more than up for the challenge and eager to earn points for their class. The weather was kind to us as we experienced near perfect conditions and this was certainly a week I was looking forward to as it would be my first experience of a Patana Sports Day.
The event is split into two sections spread over the course of the morning. The circuit is the first of these for all, apart from Year 5 and is an excellent way to start the day with all the children getting involved in a variety of throwing, running and jumping activities and all striving to achieve their best distances, times or scores. Each individual performance is vital as points are awarded from 1 to 4 according to the standard achieved which are then added to their overall class total. The fields, hard court and tennis courts all became a hive of activity as an array of athletic events got under way.
For the second part of the competition all of the children move to the Track where they get the chance to perform in front of their peers, parents and teachers. It is also an opportunity to cheer on class mates and friends in selective events such as the 60m Sprints, Obstacle Race and a variety of other fun events and relays. Tactics became more important as children, with guidance from their PE teacher had chosen which events they would participate in during the track action.
As always it was fantastic to see so many children competing and enjoying their sports day. There were many tired but happy athletes at the end of a long and exciting morning of competition. We clearly have an incredible amount of up and coming talent in the Primary School. Our Sports Days are designed so that all of our children have opportunities to succeed and all points gained are important but our classes still work towards the goal of being champions on the day. Our four winning classes this year were as follows but a huge congratulations to everyone who did their very best for themselves and their classes throughout the mornings;-
Year 3 – 3P
Tear 4 – 4E
Year 5 – 5B
Year 6 – 6D
Many children did very well individually on the circuit and on the track but special mention must go to Moniqa Nielsen 3C who recorded the perfect score of 36 points out of a possible 36 points from her 9 circuit events which was an amazing achievement.
Once again we would like to thank the many parents for coming to support, many of whom entered into the spirit of the occasion by participating in the parents race, an event which the children always love to see.
A big thank you to all the PE staff, teachers, ground staff, maids and of course the stars of the show, the students who once again helped to make our Patana Sports Days 2009 such successful and enjoyable events.
The next event for our young Athletics fans will be Primary Record Breakers for our Year 4, 5 and 6 students on Saturday 13th March so put it in your diaries.
