U/11 BISAC Track and Field Championships
Primary Athletes conclude a memorable year of BISAC competition with victory in the under 11 Boys and Girls Track and Field Championships
On Saturday 16th May our six boy and seven girl Under 11 athletes would have been relieved to look out in the morning to see clear skies and confirmation of their big day on the track at ISB. Our youngest competitors started their events in confident mood with the first track events over 60m leaving Peachy Ellis with a Silver Medal for the girls and David Gist a Silver and Hein Htet MacArthur the Bronze over the two heats for the boys. Over in the field events the Long Jump had started with Ross Nicholson taking the Gold for BISAC schools for the boys and Molly Frain claiming the Silver and Angelina Siddons who is still only in Year 5 taking a well deserved Bronze for the girls.
Next on the track were our 600m runners where Emilia Caule ran a great race to take Gold with a strong 4th from Pann Maleenont for the girls while Ross also ran a fine race to also win Gold with David securing the Bronze for the boys. Back to the field events where the High Jump was in full spring with David winning the Gold with a P.B. jump of 1.37m and Peachy retaining her BISAC crown with a jump of 1.35m.
On the track our 200m runners were also climbing the podium with Peachy claiming the Silver and Ellen Hagelauer the Bronze over the two heats and Hien Htet the Silver with a good run from our other Year 5 student Taran Muthukumaran. The final event on the field left Katie Lawrence-Smith with Gold in the Baseball throw and Basketball Push Pass with Molly the Bronze in the Baseball throw.
In between rain, the 60m shuttle relays got underway with the girls taking a commanding lead before the batton was unfortunately dropped but the boys held onto theirs to take a deserved Gold. For the boys Gene Ratanadaros and Fionn Baily certainly played their part in a strong team effort.
As the results were announced I was delighted to hear that both the boys and girls had won the Under 11 BISAC competitions with great performance from our Under 13 and 15 teams also.
The Track and Field events brought the BISAC season to a close for our Primary athletes and I am delighted and very proud to share our overall performances for the year.

A tremendous set of results from a large group of very talented young Patana Tigers. Year 4 and 5 you will certainly have a very exciting challenge on your hands for next year!
A huge thank you to all of the students who have attended our ECA training sessions for any of the above sports as the competition for places has been tough throughout the year. Also to all of the coaches without whom we would be unable to play at all and finally to our parents who support what we do so positively.
Last but not the least we look forward to our KS2 Inter Class Football during the week beginning Monday 9th July and finally the much anticipated Primary FOBISSEA Games in KL, Malaysia.
Stay focused children the year is not yet done!

Primary Students Enjoy a Tee Ball-Tactic BISAC Sat
On Saturday 25th April our intrepid Primary Tee Ballers ventured into their respective Boys and Girls U’11 BISAC Tournaments with the girls playing at Bromsgrove and the boys at Shrewsbury. Our Primary ethos of giving as many students as possible the opportunity to participate continued with an impressive 3 girls and 4 boys teams being entered allowing over 80 Patana Tee Ball lovers the chance to experience the highs and lows of friendly competition.
The girls teams were the Patana Tigers (yr 6 girls), Patana Black (yr 4 and 5 girls) and Patana Orange (yr 4,5 and 6 girls). On a very hot, humid and long day all of the girls played well. The Patana Tigers and Orange team were in Pool A together; both teams showed excellent teamwork, quick thinking and very good fielding skills. They ended up 1st and 2nd in their pool. Patana Black were in Pool B and a few nerves and getting used to playing together as a team saw some poor decisions made against tough opposition . However, over the course of the day the girls improved the accuracy of their throwing and shut the other teams down in their base running – we just couldn’t convert the outs! Patana Black also improved their batting as each game went on, progressively scoring more homes.
In the semi-finals Patana Tigers displayed tight fielding, good communication and fieldwork to win comfortably and progress to the finals. Patana Orange fought hard in the other semi but unfortunately lost a close encounter. In the 3rd/4th playoff Patana Orange lifted their hitting and base running game to beat hosts Bromsgrove and take an excellent 3rd place. The final saw Patana Tigers against a strong and confident Harrow team. The girls were sublime on the field. Nina made quick accurate passing and Molly in the infield cut out many balls to get Harrow out. Honami’s big hit on the last ball saw the team cruise to victory and the well deserved title of BISAC Champions 2009.
The coaches player of the day from their respective teams were Satu Pentilla for the Patana Blacks, Molly Frain for the Patana Tigers and Laura Ramula for the Oranges while all of the players deserve praise for their efforts.
Special thanks to Mrs. La Crosse for her photography on the day, the parents for their continued support and patience in the sun and the girls for their great skills and participation on the day.
Below is a report from our Girls Patana Tigers captain.
" WOOOOAHHH... it was a tough day!
In the BURNING hot sun, we ran and ran!
But when EVERYONE is shouting their heads off for you, all that tiredness just floats away.
Hearing from Ms.Caswell that we were communicating and working together really well, just gives us the boost to get out there and knock the other teams dead!!
Each game we played was really tough and breath-taking, but not as much as the final.
Everyone's heart could never beat faster. Butterflies were in our stomach, sweat dripping down our red faces.
The first innings was unbelievable, the score was really close;
In the second inning we could feel the adrenalin rushing through our veins.
Finally, we won with a smile stretched across our faces.
Winning the BISAC T-Ball was just pure awesome!
T-I-G-E-R-S GOOOOO TIGERS!!!"

The boys were split into a Championship pool where each school could only field one team which for us was our Patana Tigers squad and the Cup pool where our other Patana Black, Patana Orange and mysterious Patana X teams enjoyed a round robin tournament with other schools second teams.
The Tigers started their Championship challenge with a game against Ruamrudee International School where our fielding was strong but our batting needed some attention finally winning 9 – 2 after 2 innings. Next up were Harrow who we suspected would be our main rivals on the day with a close fought encounter finishing 14–10 in our favour. A semi final clash again with RIS showed our intent as we batted intelligently to win 17– 4 to take us to the final against our old friends from Harrow. The boys batted first and lay down the gauntlet before an amazing fielding display in Harrow’s second innings limited them to only 2 home leaving the Tigers as deserved BISAC Champions of 2009 with an impressive 16-6 win. All of the boys improved their decision making during the tournament and their improved confidence and team spirit were a credit to all but Mr.Tatam’s player of the day award goes to David Gist for his great deep fielding and positive batting display.
In the cup competition our 3 representative teams played with growing confidence and understanding of the game to perform better and better the more they played. Our Patana Black team remained unbeaten in their 4 games despite a nail biting final game against Patana X where they needed to score off the last batter to win. With their final victory also came the well deserved title of the BISAC Boys Cup Champions 2009. As a team made up of our Year 4 and 5 students, the future certainly looks bright as they batted superbly with two 20 points scores over the 2 innings underlining their powerful performances. Mr. Jolley was delighted with everyone contributions with William Winston and James Page performing strongly but his player of the day award go to Karatae Uahwatanasakul.
The Patana Oranges were a credit to Mr. Amuchou as they played with energy and desire to win that brought them two wins on the day and an overall 3rd place finish in the Cup competition. Again there were many great performances but his player of the day award goes to Joe Paveley who led superbly from the front.
Our Patana X Team was a late entry but one that I was delighted to be able to send as under the care of Mr. Rice on the day they played some excellent Tee Ball. After a brief voyage of discovery as many of the boys enjoyed their first taste of competitive Tee Ball their confidence and decision making improved markedly culminating in a deserved victory over Shrewsbury and that very close final game against our own Black Team. Mr. Rice thoroughly enjoyed working with his team and his player of the day award goes to Lance Van Heemstra.
Congratulations go to all of the children who played and enjoyed their BISAC Tee Ball success this year. Being double BISAC Champions with the bonus of Boys Cup winners is an amazing achievement which we as a school should rightly be very proud.
A huge thank you to Mr.Rice, Mr. Amuchou, Mr. Jolley, Khun Patcharee, Miss. Gibson and Miss. Caswell for coaching on the day and to all of the parents who supported our teams at either venue.
