Foundation and Key Stage 1 Sports Days 2011
Patana’s Youngest Athletes Run, Jump and Throw Their Way to Success

Last week saw our Key Stage 1 and Foundation Stage Sports Days on the Primary Back Fields. This is one of our favourite weeks in the PE department as it’s always a joy to see so many enthusiastic and happy young faces performing in such a variety of fun and athletic events. This is especially true for our K1 students as this was their first ever sports day.
Each event has a wide variety of activities as varied as the Hockey Dribble Challenge, Javelin Throw, Three Spring Jump and the Obstacle Course. It certainly is an exhausting morning as they are given six minutes at each station. Our Key Stage 1 students were first up on the Wednesday morning and this year saw the introduction of a new event, the Three Spring Jump. This wasn’t to prove a problem and each class put in a fantastic performance with some amazing jumping on display. In fact all of the students were looking very confident as they moved around the field, the hard work they had been putting into their PE lessons had clearly payed off. Even though the weather was very kind to us it was still very hot and the students looked exhausted by the end and certainly appreciated their surprise ice cream.
Miss Betsy and Miss Fiona write regarding our Foundation Stage Sports Day
Foundation Stage Sports Day had it all, great activities, great weather and great athletes! For our K1 children it was the very first sports day of their school life. K2 children had experienced the fun of sports day last year and displayed confidence and energy whilst completing the challenging stations. The day was arranged in a circuit with students rotating around activities that saw them display their speed, strength, jumping, throwing and even pedalling skills! We were very pleased to see all the happy and enthusiastic little faces (and big smiles on the parents’ faces) as they all tried their best on the 8 different activities and 3 relaxing water stations. A great big thank you to the PE team, swim team, class teachers and assistants in helping with the running of the day.
As always our parents showed up in large and encouraging numbers. In many cases they were as enthusiastic as the children, cheering them on and in some cases having a go (it was noted that we have some very talented parent Javelin throwers).
A big thank you to all the PE/Swimming staff, class teachers, support staff, parents and of courses the stars of the show the students who helped to make the Sports Days such an enjoyable and successful event. A final and well deserved thank you must go to the Year 6 students who helped out so enthusiastically at each event and acted as great role models.
Our younger students have done us proud once again! Keep up the good work.
