Patana Invitational U/9's Football Tournament
Patana Under 9s Turn on the Style at our Invitational Football Tournament
Saturday 7th March saw our invitational under 9 football tournament take place during a very hot morning on our Primary back fields. The tournament was made up of a 6 team Championship Boys Pool, a 6 team Boys Pool B, and a 5 team Girls Championship Pool giving us a total of 17 teams and about 170 children from across Bangkok. We were pleased to welcome teams from Harrow International School, Shrewsbury, Bangkok Prep, St. Andrews, and the Regents.
I was delighted to be able to enter 4 of our own Boys teams and 2 Girls giving 56 of our young footballers the opportunity to represent the school in friendly competition, many for the first time. In the Boys Championship Pool our Patana Tiger Cubs team maintained their impressive unbeaten record in all competitions this year with 5 tremendous wins scoring a total of 24 superb goals with none conceded. Mr. Hockley was very pleased with everyone’s positive contribution throughout and his player of the day award goes to Taneli Heiskanen 4H who led from the front as captain.
Our other team in the Championship Pool was the Patana Black Team who had a real challenge on their hands against the other schools first teams. After a difficult opening game against our very own Tiger Cubs, they improved with each game losing 2 games by a single goal, drawing one and posting a memorable win 3-0. Mr. Amuchou was very proud of the whole team and his player of the day was Aryan Jain 4P for some excellent goal keeping throughout.
In the Boys Pool B competition our Patana Year 3 team certainly stepped up to the mark against their Year 4 competitors with an outstanding day. The squad of 10 boys selected from Mr. Woods and Mr. Hanlon’s Year 3 football ECA followed the Tiger Cubs with 5 wins out of 5 scoring 11 goals and conceding none, completing the double of trophy wins in the Boys Pools for Patana. Mr. Woods was also very impressed by the positive contributions of all the boys and his player of the day award goes to young Shaye Sealy 3C who tackled everyone who came anywhere near his goal.
Our final Boys team who also played in Pool B was the mighty Patana Oranges who have been working really hard at training in preparation for this tournament. Their hard work and dedication certainly paid off with only one narrow loss against the Year 3s followed by a 2-2 draw before winning their final 3 games in confident style. An excellent 2nd place finish and a silver medal for the very pleased team and coach Mr. Ben with his player of the day award going to Andreas Karalis 4R. A special mention should also go to Theo Bien 4W as the most improved player during the morning.
In the Girls Championship Pool our Patana Tiger Cubs and Patana Black Girls met in the first game with an exciting end to end game finishing 1-1 at the close. This was to be the only slight slip up for either team as our mighty girls won each of their remaining 3 games leaving them tied at the top of the pool on 14 points each. As they had drawn their game the deciding factor went down to goals scored and the Tiger Cubs had scored 7 and the Patana Blacks 6 giving the Tigers 1st place and Blacks 2nd which was a tremendous result for our fantastic Year 3 and 4 girl footballers. Miss Gibson gave her player of the day award to Sinead Bushell 3W while Ms. Molesworth and Ms Forrester-Brown awarded theirs to Ella Glanville 4M while all of our girls deserve much praise for their attitude and performances throughout the morning.
Looking out on our three pitches during the tournament, it was hard not to be impressed by the play unfolding on the fields, the amazing troops of supporting parents and the dedication of all of the Coaches as they supported and cajoled their teams to play at their best.
A huge thank you to all of the children who played, the many parents who supported, the Coaches, the Nurse, Gatorade, Sports and Activities and to all of the schools who joined us during the morning to make the tournament such a success.
Goooo……. Patana!
