Where do you come from?

Do you know what your flag looks like?
http://aimore.org/countries_flags.html

Do you know your national anthem?

Miss Richardson actually comes from three countries! She only knows two of the national anthems though...

 The British...

and the Australian...

She doesn't know the Slovak anthem as unfortunately she does not speak Slovak. Slovakia is in Europe.

Can you find it on the map?
Can you find your country on the map?

Spelling Home Learning...

A huge thank you to Mandeep (Aeshna's mum) for coming in to class and teaching us all about the fesivals celebrated in India. We had a fabulous morning!

 “Drop Pins” Home Learning

This half term our learning theme is “Drop Pins”. We will be learning about landmarks and features of different places.

Select tasks from the Smarts below. You will need to create a total of at least 15 pins.

Word Smart

Choose a manmade landmark. Find out about its history (when it was made, who made it, why it was made, how it was made, what it is/was used for).  Produce a fact sheet or PowerPoint slide to show what you have discovered.

10 pins

Logic Smart

Plot landmarks on a world map.  Use Google Earth to help you locate them. For ideas and suggestions of places that you could plot, take a look at this website: http://www.7wonders.org/. Download a blank map here or ask your teacher for a copy.

5 pins

Picture Smart

Create a picture or model of a famous landmark from your home country. You may choose whichever materials you like to create your masterpiece, e.g. paint, recycled materials, fabric.

10 pins

Nature Smart

Choose a natural landmark, e.g. The Great Barrier Reef, the Amazon River. Find out about the types of plants and / or animals that live there. Produce a fact sheet or PowerPoint slide to show what you have discovered.

10 pins

Body Smart

Create a dance or drama to illustrate the construction of a landmark of your choice. Film it and email it or be prepared to perform to your classmates!

5 pins

Music Smart

Write a rap, a song or create a short composition inspired by a natural landmark. Record it and play it back to your class or perform it for your classmates!

10 pins

People Smart

Interview a family member about their favourite landmark and their reasons why. Record and/or present your findings in any way you choose, e.g. a recording, a news report.

5 pins

Self Smart

Think about a landmark that you have visited. Consider what you learned about it, what you learned from the experience and how you felt. Write a reflective recount.

Some maths challenges.

Published Wednesday, November 02, 2011.
Last updated: Wednesday, November 02, 2011

How many of these maths problems can you solve?  Some are harder some are easier.  Problems where you have to do some thinking but you can solve it are just right.  Remember to write the information down - what is the important information?  What are you trying to find out?  Do you have add, subtract, multiply or divide?  Also remember to show your working.

Year 4 are given a sunflower that is 97cm tall. They measure it later in the term, and it has grown 95cm. How many metres tall is the sunflower now?
At the end of the year, the sunflower has grown by half as much again. What is the sunflower’s height at the end of the year?

There are 80 marbles in a jar. 15 are red, 20 are blue, 13 are yellow. The rest are green. How many green marbles are there in the jar?
A box holds 12 pencils, there are four boxes. How many pencils are there altogether? How many pencils are there in 10 boxes?

Jenny buys three different things from the post office. She buys two stamps at 27p each and a chocolate bar which is £1.20. How much does she spend altogether?
How much change will she get from £2.00? If she had £3.00, how much change would she get?

A Viking boat holds 45 soldiers. How many soldiers would there be in 5 boats? How many would there be in 9 longboats?

It takes Eric Bloodbath 6 hours to make 1 Viking shield. How long would it take him to make 9 shields?
If it takes 41/2 hours to make 1 Viking helmet, how long would it take him to make 6 helmets? There are 16 houses in one Viking village. Another Viking village is double the size of the first one. How many houses are there in the second village?

There are 30 people at a bus stop. 10 vampires suddenly appear and each bite the same number of people. All the people are bitten. How many people did each vampire bite?
There are 4 caterpillars on a tree. Each caterpillar eats 9 leaves. What is the total number of leaves eaten?

A man goes to a pet shop to buy equipment for his new dog. The pet shop owner shows him a bowl at £2.50, some dog treats at £3.75, a collar at £5.50, and a chew toy at £7.95. How much money does the man need to buy one of each?

You have a bag of 36 marbles. Some are red, some yellow and the rest are blue. If 1/4 are red, how many marbles are red?

If 1/2 are yellow, how many blue marbles do you have?

How many yellow marbles are in 3 bags altogether?

T. Rex went shopping because he had to buy 2 Christmas presents.  He had £5.00 in his claw.  He bought a ball for 75p and a bag of sweets for 35p.  How much change did he have left?

Mark had 50 red crayons on his table. These had to be shared between 5 tables in the classroom.  How many crayons were on each table?

sunflower is 97cm tall. after term1 it grows more 95cm so its nw 97+95 cm=192cm tall
after end of year it has grown half as much which is half of 192=(100+90+2)/2=50+45+1=96cm more. so at the end of year its nw 192+96cm tall=288cm=2m88cm tall

Some suggestions to help you with the matrix

Published Thursday, October 27, 2011.
Last updated: Thursday, October 27, 2011
Here are some ideas to help you with the activities we have asked you to complete on the matrix...

Poem
Have a look at some pictures or videos of the floods.  What do you see?
What do you hear? What do you feel?  Use these ideas to help you write a 'Capture the Moment' poem.

Design an invention that makes your life easier or other people's lives easier in the flood.
What is something you find hard or boring?  Getting up early? Finding things? Taking the dog for a walk? Cleaning the hamster cage?
Use your imagine to design something that would help - it doesn't have to possible.  Use your imagination.  Think of Phineas and Ferb!

Invent your own maths board game
Maybe a an addition adventure where you have to be the first to 100 and answer addition problems as you go.  You could base it on an existing game e.g. Snakes and Ladders or Connect 4.

Create a shoebox model of an inventors studio
What does your inventor invent?  What sort of things would an inventor need? Draw these things and stand them up in a shoe box.  Paint/colour the back ground.

Make up a list of the top 10 useless inventions
These would be thing that would not be that helpful. Like an alarm clock that sends you to sleep or a special safety knife that is so safe it can't cut anything!

Design the iPad 10
This is about imagining what an iPad might have in about 10 years time.  Use your imagination.  What about an iPad that has a Swiss arm knife into it?
Draw what it would look like and label and explain the different features.

Design your own 5 minute exercise routine
You could use music.  What exercises could you put together that would help people get fit?

Make up a story about an invention that goes wrong.
Think about
Who are the characters?
Where is the setting?
What is the invention?
How will it go wrong?
How will the problem be solved?
Draw a plan first to get all your ideas down.
Think about how will your story begin?

If you have any great ideas which you would like to share with the rest of Year 4, leave them here as a comment!

Good luck and stay safe from all the Y4 staff!

Moles have large front feet for digging soil or burrows .The mole will mainly eat insects and worm .They have short fur to prevent dirt from coming in side . They have ears hidden under their furs so that dirt wont come into ears . They also have small eyes to prevent dirt form coming in . They have whiskers to guide them .They have an upright tail to feel the roof of burrow .
