Comnuity Projects

Bangkok Patana School has a strong ethos of community service. Our aim in the Secondary School is to provide all students with an understanding of the importance and value of supporting the wider community in a variety of ways.

Students become involved in community service through tutor and year group projects, through extra-curricular activities and as part of the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) component of the International Baccalaureate programme in Senior Studies. The activities support a huge range of projects which cover local, national and international issues.

Some of the activities have included:

The Napo Village Project: This project first got underway in 1996 and started with the sponsorship of around 40 students in Napo village, situated in north east Thailand. Now education scholarships are provided for around 90 Napo students, enabling them to stay at school until graduation. Without the sponsorship many of the students might have dropped out of school because of family hardship. Each year busloads of donated clothes, toiletries, toys and other useful goods are collected by our senior students and delivered to Napo. Year 7s have made special contributions each year with their special fundraising which has enabled school shoes, food and equipment to be purchased for Napo students

Habitat for Humanity: Each year IB students participate in projects initiated by Habitat for Humanity, an international charity which seeks to help break the cycle of poverty for individuals and their families by providing no-profit loans, together with volunteer help to construct homes. Currently around 1½ million people are living in homes made possible by Habitat for Humanity. Students participate in projects throughout Thailand and really ‘get their hands dirty’, being actively involved in the house building with site preparation, concrete mixing and brick laying all part of the week long activity.
