This policy has been written to inform students, their parents and teachers of the acceptable ways information and communication technology (ICT) may be used at Bangkok Patana School. 1. Students in Key Stages 1 to 4 may only use ICT if supervised by a teacher. Students should not use their personal laptop computers during break time and only in the supervised ICT rooms at lunch time. 2. Students shall only access the school network using their own username. It is the student's responsibility to make every attempt to keep their password private and to change it at least every three months. 3. Patana school email accounts may be used for: - Teacher directed activities;
- Transferring work between school and home;
- Collaborating on school work.
4. Downloading large files from the Internet uses a large amount of the school's bandwidth. Files may only be downloaded if a teacher has approved and if the file is for school use. 5. Printing can be expensive and ecologically unfriendly. Students should be selective and economical in what they print out. 6. Students are responsible for good behaviour on the Internet just as they are in a classroom or a school corridor. General school rules apply. 7. Using online chat rooms should not be undertaken at school unless as part of a teacher guided activity. 8. File storage devices used in school are not private. Staff may review files and communications to ensure that users are using the system responsibly. 9. Students should use a laptop bag when carying their personal laptop around school. 10. If a personal laptop breaks down during a lesson, student should not leave the room in search of technical assistance. School laptops can be borrowed for short periods of time to cover for broken personal laptops but the application to borrow should not be made during lesson time. ExamplesThe following are not permitted: - Sending or displaying offensive messages or pictures
- Using obscene language
- Harassing, insulting or attacking others
- Damaging computers, computer systems or computer networks
- Violating copyright laws
- Using others' passwords
- Trespassing (or attempting to trespass) in others' folders, work or files
- Intentionally wasting limited resources

Outside of school, families bear responsibility for such guidance as they must also exercise with information sources such as television, telephones, movies, radio and other potentially offensive media. Don’t forget that when you signed up for your Patana email account you agreed to the following conditions: "I understand that I am responsible for all emails sent using my Patana email account and promise not to reveal my password to anyone else. I will always be careful and polite with the emails I send. I understand that my Patana email account is not private and will be checked from time to time by staff. I will use my email account only for school approved work. I will not include any personal contact details (phone number, address etc) in email message. I understand that if I do not follow the guidance above I will be liable for sanctions set by the school. In extreme cases external agencies may be involved."
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that ICT resources are used only for purposes appropriate to the school. All users of technology must be aware that inappropriate use of ICT may be a violation of Thai law and against the best interests of the school community. This policy is continually subject to review as the availability of systems improve and become more plentiful across the school. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Web Publishing Guidelines for StudentsAll information that is in the public area of the Patana website can be viewed by anyone with access to the internet.
