There’s Been a Murder...

...Not really, just an opportunity for Year 12 Physics students to test their understanding of the principles of measurement and uncertainty by acting as Crime Scene Investigators!

Students needed to match the density of different rubber samples to a theoretical fleck of rubber found on a hypothetical corpse and “prove beyond reasonable doubt” which of the samples was the murder weapon. To do this students needed to consider the sources and sizes of errors in their measurements, and propagate these uncertainties through their calculations.
