Visiting Poet Sara Hirsch

Our Secondary students have had a great couple of days listening to and interacting with performance poet and UK and European Slam Champion Sara Hirsch. Exploring issues as diverse as feminism and ‘what’s in a name?’ to what it is to belong, there has been lots to think about. After completing workshop sessions with Sara and having studied her poetry with Head of English Mr Robertson, the Key Stage 3 Extended Learners presented their own celebration of Sara Hirsch’s poetry to a receptive and delightful Year 6 audience. Sara was very impressed with the talents of our very own poets!

Don't miss the video of Sara doing her thing at the bottom of the page!

Visiting Poet Sara Hirsch

"Congratulations to the wonderful students in Year 7 and 8 who produced such inventive, thoughtful and sophisticated 'Artistic Responses to the Poetry of Sara Hirsch' - you were amazing...and very brave! Sara herself was stunned that students so young could be so incredibly creative.
Thanks also to the wonderful audiences from Year 6-11 - your enthusiasm, participation and deeply thought-provoking questions made each session a delight. I told Sara that we were honoured to have had her at school and she replied with the following: 'Being at Patana blew me away! I have never known anything like it. From the moment I saw the incredible display in the library to watching the artistic presentations of my poetry, it has been a privilege' - a wonderful compliment indeed!"
