Green Fingered Global Citizens

Where do your fruit and vegetables come from? Walk into any supermarket and you’ll see apples from Japan and strawberries from Spain.  Although they are delicious, have you ever stopped to consider the carbon footprint of this globally sourced produce? As Global Citizens, the Year 6 students want to reduce their human footprint on the planet and ensure their daily actions impact the Earth in a sustainable way.

As part of this learning, the students have been set the challenge of developing their own Year 6 gardens in the hope that they can grow their own produce that can be used by the local community. The students have chosen the crops they wish to plant and have developed planting beds on unused parts of the school campus. A huge variety of seeds were planted by the children, from beans to watermelons! We are looking forward to nurturing a healthy crop.
