Year 2 students have been diving into descriptive language this term, focusing on enhancing their writing with vivid descriptions and precise use of prepositions. To take their learning to the next level, they embarked on an exciting project combining literacy with cutting-edge technology: using AI tools to bring their words to life!
Students worked with ChatGPT to refine their descriptions and used Ideogram to create AI-generated artwork based on their writing. This activity highlighted an essential lesson: AI only does what you tell it to, so their descriptions needed to be crystal clear.
After generating their unique visuals, students reflected on how closely the artwork matched their original descriptions. They discussed the differences and considered how they could make their writing even clearer next time. This reflective process not only honed their descriptive skills but also deepened their understanding of effective communication.
The learning didn’t stop there! Students showcased their creative pieces in a lively classroom session, practicing performative oracy skills by reading their descriptions aloud with expression while sharing their AI-generated art.
