Ancient Egypt in Bangkok Patana
Can you walk like an Egyptian?
Year Three’s new concept-based curriculum ended with a fun-filled day of Ancient Egyptian activities. Over the last eight weeks students explored the concept of ‘belonging’ in the context of themselves, and also through the story of Marcy – a little girl who overcame her fears to rescue her Father and find her role within her family of explorers. Along the way, they have learnt interesting knowledge about Ancient Egyptian geography, culture and customs and carried out their own inquiry into an aspect of Egyptian history that they wanted to explore further. In their art lessons, the children designed and made the costumes they wore for Ancient Egypt day, learning how to sew and print with fabric and fibres. In guided reading, they learned about the process of mummification and put it into practice, first by mummifying a tomato, and then in assembly by mummifying two of our teachers!
When we asked the students for feedback on this half term, they found it really challenging to pick a favourite and most agreed that ‘everything’ was brilliant, but that learning about Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses was particularly interesting. This sets us all up nicely for Term 1b, where we learn and inquire about mythical creatures and consider the key question of ‘where can our imagination take us?’
