Some reflections from our award winners:
“During Year 9, when choosing my (I)GCSE options, I chose Art and Design: Photography as I wanted to have a balance between academic and creative subjects. I enjoyed taking photos and learning about cameras since I was young and thought this choice was perfect for me. Throughout the two years of IGCSE, I complained countless times to my peers and family about how much work and effort I needed to put into my coursework and ESA portfolios, which led me to wonder if this was really right for me.
But now, looking back, I don’t regret it at all. The time I spent in the darkroom developing film, taking photos around Bangkok and in other countries made me realise how we often miss the beautiful things around us.
I would like to thank my teacher, Ms Mihaela-Marcela Marcovici, for always supporting me and giving me constant feedback. I would not have been able to score so highly without her, and I am utterly grateful.” Najai (Waan-Yen) Wongpaibool
“Receiving the “Top in the World” award for IGCSE Mathematics is more than a personal achievement; it reflects the people, moments and lessons that have shaped my journey. I am deeply thankful to my parents and friends for their constant encouragement, and a special thanks goes to my teacher, Ms Yang, whose passion for mathematics and belief in my potential turned challenges into stepping stones.
Studying mathematics has taught me that every problem has a solution — it just takes patience and persistence to find it. This mindset has shaped how I approach not just academics but life itself, seeing obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow. Mathematics continues to fuel my curiosity and creativity, inspiring me to embrace future challenges with confidence.” – Matthew Thepsoparn
“Chemistry is a subject I have loved since young whether I realised it or not. I’ve been performing experiments since I could walk from baking to making slime to making chemical crystals for my art project. I’m most proud of this outstanding learner award — not because it’s the highest mark in Thailand, but because it’s a symbol of hard work, passion and resilience. I’d like to thank my parents for always supporting me through my high highs and low lows. Celebrating my efforts, regardless of the outcome. I’d also like to thank my Chemistry teacher of over four years, Mr Oakes. He always emphasised the importance of academic maturity and working from the heart, not just the mind, which is what transforms a good learner into an outstanding one. This award isn’t mine alone; but belongs to all the teachers, friends and family who supported me every step of the way.” Xinning (Luna) Huang
