Fierce Reader’s Cup Competition
Tension and tie-breaking in the annual Year 5 Reader’s Cup…
The annual Reader’s Cup saw fierce competition in the final round, with eight teams taking to the Theatre stage, all vying for the coveted Year 5 trophy. Each team represented their class and worked together to answer trivia questions about 10 books that they had been reading in preparation. The Year 5 audience was an enthusiastic source of support, and having also read the same books, were able to help with answering some of the questions.
This year’s event was the closest final round ever! Mr Murgatroyd, the Head of Libraries, was on the edge of his seat as only two points separated the top six teams leading up to the last question. Tension mounted and the final scores were revealed – for the first time in the Reader’s Cup history, it was a tie! Three teams had to then answer four tie-breaking questions to determine which class would finally earn the Reader’s Cup. However, even these questions couldn’t break the tie! So in 2022, the Reader’s Cup is shared between classes 5C and 5W. They may just need to rotate the trophy between their classrooms…
A very big well done and congratulations to our Year 5 readers. The students not only enjoyed the competition, but also developed their reading skills through the preparation and analysis of texts. Their love of reading has surely grown, as have their collaboration skills and expertise!
