International Women’s Day 2019

International Women’s Day 2019

This year’s International Women’s Day focuses on ‘Balance for Better’, creating a more gender-balanced world.

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2019, there have been a number of activities around the Secondary School. Senior students were invited to wear purple to show their support for the campaign, this year focusing on #BalanceforBetter which promotes building a more gender-balanced world. In the Library, a dedicated display area with books promoting women was available and enjoyed by lots of students.

During break and lunchtime, Secondary students were invited to write a postcard to an inspirational woman of their choice as well as make a pledge and commit to it by having their picture taken. Others chose to strike the ‘gender-balance’ pose. In their French lesson as part of IWD19, Year 12 students were examining the representation of women in the media. Looking at recent adverts portraying women, the students went on to write a blog post in French about their own opinion issue.

We are proud to support this global day, where collectively we can all raise awareness of the important issues highlighted on the 8th March, issues that not only affect women but humanity around the world.
