Tips for aspiring doctors

Seven of our Grad ’25 students, Ema, Ellie, Ada, Tuna, Seiya, Wafi and Minee, were accepted to study Medicine and Veterinary Medicine this year. In a session designed to inspire the next generation of aspiring doctors, Wafi and Seiya volunteered to speak with our Year 10 and 12 students about their journeys toward medical school.

The pair gave an engaging and practical talk, sharing personal insights on applying to Medical programmes in Thailand, the UK and Ireland. They emphasised the importance of starting early, particularly in preparing for medical entrance exams. Both highlighted that work shadowing, internships, and further reading in biology, chemistry and medicine can be invaluable in building strong university applications. They encouraged students to keep a reflective journal during their work experiences.

A key takeaway was the importance of crafting a compelling personal statement. Wafi and Seiya explained how real-world experience strengthens applications and provides valuable perspective on the realities of a medical career. For those aiming to study in Thailand, they also detailed the portfolio requirements.

The session concluded with helpful advice on preparing for medical interviews, with both students stressing the need for practice, confidence, and staying up-to-date with current medical issues.

Learning first-hand from their elder peers left our Year 10 and 12 students motivated and better informed, as they begin to consider their own futures in medicine.
