Meet the New Teacher: Karan Allen

Karan Allen is the new Business Studies and Economics teacher.

Secondary Business Studies and Economics Teacher, Year 11A Tutor

Karan Allen is the new Business Studies and Economics teacher. She earned a Bachelor’s in Business Studies at Nottingham Trent University. She began her career working in supply chain in the transportation industry. However, she realised that she was looking for something more fulfilling and turned to teaching.

“I taught in British and international schools in Spain, Germany, India and Vietnam. I was in Ho Chi Minh City teaching at a British school before coming to Thailand. I was thinking of going to the UK but I applied to Bangkok Patana and I decided if I got the job, I would stay in Asia.”

“Because the students are at such a good level here, it makes me really have to step my game up and make sure I am on top of all the business and economics news. The students here are really informed about global economic topics and issues.”

“I came for an interview in December and was amazed at how massive the school is, the facilities are phenomenal. I had a really good feeling about the people in the department where I work, they all seemed friendly and professional. Now that I’ve been here for a while, I love it. The students are really wonderful, and my department is really supportive. I am really appreciative of their support.”

“I will be supporting the students in their coffee enterprise next term, Pataroma, I am really looking forward to that.”

“My husband is a yoga instructor, I met him in Goa. I do practice yoga myself but not as frequently as he does. Normally I love social dancing, I dance salsa, bachata and tango. But with COVID I am waiting to enjoy the Bangkok dance scene. The most important thing is that you enjoy yourself.”
